Sex is not binary?

I'm feeling quite lost in a conversation on another forum (I'd rather not name it). This person said in a discussion that there are no sexes. When I queried this, this was the response. I haven't read all of the citations in this Nature article but I scanned the article.

No, it's false to say sex is entirely binary and that individuals are either 100% female or 100% male.
For a quick summary: "Sex redefined""_
Also, please be careful that you are not conflating intersex with transgender—they are two separate (but occasionally related) conditions. Intersex folks may be cis or trans; trans folks might not have any identifiably intersex traits.

New to the trans debate what does CIS mean?

Harmarsuperstar · 26/10/2020 15:47

Cooperative Insurance Services.
There's a CIS building in Manchester, or there used to be, not sure if its still there

It's a term in chemistry, broadly meaning "this side of"

Transactivists use it to redefine the status quo. So trans people, people who wish to be seen as the opposite sex become the norm and people, those without a socially unusual desire, become this side of trans, the ones requiring an additional explanatory label.

The same activists try it with the word woman too: a recent-ish linguistic development is transwomen and non transwomen. So women are now an othered set, a different kind of woman.

Though to be absolutely clear about it, that is when the words used include 'woman' at all. Menstruators, birthing person, chest feeder etc are becoming all to frequent in advertising and in NHS leaflets, posters etc.

And no, I am not joking or exaggerating. Though I do wish I was making it up.
