Julia Gillard’s misogyny speech voted most memorable TV moment

The poll itself had some strong stuff (the sorry speech; the dismissal), so it’s interesting that this one came tops. It might speak to the demographics of the readership. Still, it’s a great speech and watching Tony Abbott being schooled by an outraged and eloquent Julia Gillard was a great moment in political theatre.

The poll: www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/ng-interactive/2020/jan/24/whats-the-most-unforgettable-australian-tv-moment-vote-in-the-guardians-poll

Some interesting background. So many women I know were, as was I, thrilled by the speech, because it spoke so directly to our experience. Fascinating that so many (mostly male) commentators dismissed it.

I’ve just had a conversation with an Ozzie. Social media is corrupt.

Having been a friend of someone whose father worked in Canberra daily for some time, in a position of Parliamentary control - I know that the way Parliament conducts themselves is disgusting. See you next Tuesday being a comment thrown on a regular basis.

Is it just me that thinks that the description of her speech being an 'outburst' is a bit dismissive and has a 'hysterical woman' tone to it?
