Just seen this linked on FB. Tracy, one of the founders of Safe Schools Alliance discussing SSA’s work and the legal action they’re supporting regarding the Trans Toolkit for Schools in Oxfordshire. Very interesting and worth a watch.

Just listened to this. Excellent video. Full of common sense.

It's actually a risk for boys as well, IMO. A situation like that where everyone is embarrassed is ripe for a misunderstanding. And especially younger teen boys can sometimes be stupid in their comments, or allow themselves to be egged on, their decision making skills are not yet up to adult level. They don't see how things will be taken by someone else or how they might escalate. I remember as a girl at that age saying things that were really not appropriate, and sometimes hurtful.

It's asking for some kind of incident, be it a sexual assault, bullying, or whatever, and not just involving bad kids who will be bad adults. All you need are kids who are immature.

This is a really really good interview. Tracey from SSA talks very clearly and with lots of warmth about how important safeguarding for ALL children. No exceptions, no hierarchy of entitlement to safety and no arguments. They are doing fantastic work.

There's lots of really practical information and help on their website too.

There is a judicial review in the offing with Oxfordshire and I will be finding a trowel to do what I can in support. This woeful overriding of safeguarding in schools needs to be help up to the public and properly scrutinised.

Sorry, its Tracy Shaw (apol's for misspelling your name above Tracy!).

andyoldlabour · 31/01/2020 15:40

That latest video is brilliant. Every parent should be able to see it.

Thanks everyone, we are so pleased we struck the right balance with this and you all enjoyed it. Posie was a great interviewer. Let’s hope it gives people the tools and the confidence to speak to their schools and start pushing back. Occ case is really important! (Also gone back to my very old username, slightly amended)

Excellent interview.

Tracy Shaw comes across as an intelligent, articulate woman whose only concern is safeguarding children.

Her credibility is indisputable.

Such an important case. With implications not just countrywide, but possibly worldwide.

  • have gone back to my old username. Feels like and old pair of slippers!

Get digging everyone! The 13 year old in Oxfordshire girl needs our support.

I am soo angry for your cousin’s boys and for my nephews about this. If the narrative is forced upon them that single sex facilities are important for safety - particularly for girls - this is the obvious and highly predictable outcome.

The bastards don’t give a shit about boys or girls.

All children lose...

I chose the first time I saw anyone’s willy (we weren’t the type of family who strutted around naked - I don’t even think I say my dad in PJs). It was ‘interesting’!
