Excellent thank you for posting
This I think sums up ScotGov’s approach to the whole issue Sad
The draft Equality Impact Assessment cites one academic paper to support the assertion that there is little evidence to justify ever applying a blanket exclusion. However, the paper draws the opposite conclusion to the one the Scottish Government cites it to support, and instead makes the case strongly for retaining single-sex spaces.

Yes

'Its rationale for shifting to a system of self-declaration relies heavily on a desire to bring Scotland in line with ‘international best practice’. However, the consultation paper does not state which countries the Scottish Government considers to represent ‘international best practice’.'

The whole thing is so very flawed, which is why we need everyone to respond to the consultation (even if outside of both Scotland and the UK, by the way).

Thanks for posting.

Is this the one that will have any responses deemed transphobic ignored? Are there any guidelines on what constitutes transphobia? I’m going to fill it out but need to be sure my pro woman stance doesn’t fall foul.

This is the consultation that is to, in the words of N Sturgeon, 'convince' people who have concerns about the GRA reform/self ID.

So I'm afraid I have little to no faith in its effectiveness as the more usual description of a consultation, to seek out people's views.

They don't want to know. The SNP high headyins have decided, pretty early on, that they know best, despite strong evidence to the contrary.

Cherry and McAlpine are strong and wonderful politicians, but I'm not sure that that will be enough to sway the deeply entrenched views of people like Sturgeon, Mhairi 'Don't be a Jeremy Hunt' Black, or S.A. Somerville. These people are in it for the spin, they don't, ultimately, give two hoots for the rights of women and children.

Feeling pretty grim about all this. It all seems so depressingly inevitable - the 'consultation' will be a going-through-the-motions exercise, self ID will pass, and as always, women and children will bear the brunt of the effects.

Independence under such a government is looking ever less appealing.
