I really hope this gives British gymnastics pause for thought on their policies but I doubt it.

Well done to the brave women who caught him.

So one of those things that never happens just happened! Again??

Angryresister · 25/01/2020 10:59

So lets just make it easier for all of them. No it certainly never happens

Aesopfable · 25/01/2020 11:16

Nonsense! We know from advice to the Scottish Governments GRA consultation that men would never ever go into a women’s toilet unless they had magical innocent girly souls....

Uncompromisingwoman · 25/01/2020 14:50

Some sports just seem to be a magnet for repellent men like this. Those poor girls. And he got a suspended sentence and 7 years on the sex offenders register. How will he know he's no longer a threat after 7 years?

littlbrowndog · 25/01/2020 16:05

Duncan Bould, defending, said Chadwick-Jones had lost the career he loved and had sought help from a psychotherapist to understand why he committed "horrid" offences.

Jeez. He was a pervert that’s why. And it seemed he enjoyed filming women and girls over a long time

And he was coaching young girls 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Deckthehallswithlotsofcake · 25/01/2020 16:31

Eeeeew!

SunsetBeetch · 25/01/2020 17:06

Another one for the It Will Never Happen thread Sad

SciFiScream · 25/01/2020 18:10

If only @LangCleg was here to talk to us about safeguarding.

Mayomaynot · 25/01/2020 18:32

"Daniel Chadwick-Jones, 29, of Bretton Lane, Bretton, Flintshire, had admitted 13 charges of voyeurism at a gym in Gwynedd in 2018 and 2019.

The women recorded were not aware they were being filmed and two were aged 17.

Judge Huw Rees, at Caernarfon Crown Court, ordered him to complete a sex offenders' programme to address his "deviant" behaviour and suspended a six-month jail term for two years.

The court heard Chadwick-Jones was "idolised" by children at the gym and many were present when he was arrested in June 2019."

He was 'idolised'. See how hard it is to tell which men are a danger? This is why men as a class are treated as a class. This is why safeguarding matters.

May7 · 27/01/2020 18:06

Knuckles rapped by Judge Huw Rees...suspended sentence is not a deterrent it's a "get out of jail free card" If the courts dont properly punish these deviant men then they will re offend. It's been shown time again. How are we supposed to keep our children safe. Pity the victims in all of this they are the ones left damaged by his shameful lewd behaviour.

theflushedzebra · 27/01/2020 18:47

So grim. A suspended sentence is a woeful punishment for such a serious violation of women and girl's privacy.

Dolorabelle · 27/01/2020 19:11

But this never happens!!!!

SkaterGrrrrl · 28/01/2020 09:30

Speaking of women's loos, did anyone see the amazing Twitter thread about female solidarity and support that takes place in the ladies' loos at bars and clubs ...yet another thing that will be lost as more places switch to gender neutral toilets.

My, that is a gorgeous Twitter thread.

Times today by Sarah Champion MP on sexual consent & 'Positions of Trust':

'Children need protecting in all settings, not just at school'
(extract)
"If you leave your child in the care of an adult professional, you would assume that the law would apply evenly if they failed in their duty to safeguard. However, due to a legal loophole, as the law currently stands it is illegal for a teacher — but not a faith leader or sports coach — to engage in sexual activity with a 16 or 17-year-old under their supervision.

As chairwoman of the all-party parliamentary group (APPG) on safeguarding in faith settings, I am publishing a report that calls on the government to extend the definition of a ‘position of trust’ to cover any adult regularly involved in caring for, training or supervising a child.

Evidence submitted to the APPG’s inquiry into ‘positions of trust’ found current legislation to be inadequate for protecting young people from adults who would groom and abuse them.

The scale of the problem is hard to determine, due in part to the legality of the act itself, but figures previously obtained by the NSPCC from local authorities showed that between 2014 and 2018, over 650 complaints were made about adults in professions not covered by the existing position of trust law having sex with children in their care.

The APPG’s inquiry found that adults holding positions in faith organisations are perceived as having authority, power and influence within their communities — and the opportunities to abuse that power are significant as a result. Furthermore, we heard that many people feel a sense of powerlessness that can exacerbate the power dynamic in relationships, making it hard to speak up about concerns." (continues)

This is a very common narrative when abusers of children are identified.
Perpetrators groom not just children but also the adults around the child.

May7 · 28/01/2020 17:42

Yep totally agree they are groomers and usually very charming men. It's up to us as mothers to teach our children, boys and girls, how not to be vulnerable as best we can because the courts quite clearly cant keep them safe whilst these guys are out doing their penance in the community. Where do you think Chadwick jones will do his 240 unpaid hrs.....a nursery, or helping the brownies ? beggars belief doesnt it.Angry

R0wantrees · 28/01/2020 17:51

Being charming &/or trusted by parents and fellow professionals is a tool used to create an environment whereby children then might be groomed. Its calculated.

Adults need to be very aware about how they can be manipulated and alert to possible situations where basic Safeguarding principles are being disregarded.
