Is trans tape any safer than a binder?

I'm sorry if this has been discussed already but I'm in a panic, I promised my daughter I would give her a decision by tonight. I have forbidden a binder
Thank you

I recall the large scale study done on breast binding found that commercial binders were actually more dangerous than tape/bandages. I'll try and find it, OP.

For fuck sake.

Does the research with 1800 females detailing the effects of this binders not matter to those who are advocating for them, or is it the emotionally manipulative aspect that you want to push.

OP. The research is linked above. It is clear that you are the parent here and it would be good to have a very upfront and very clear conversation about this. There is no safe way to bind.

would difficult’s option work.

To those trying to emotionally manipulate the OP, please stop. We have also had enough PE teachers on Mn tell us that girls wearing binders then also self exclude from physical activity which is also vital for better mental health. Just stop with the emotional manipulation.

Here we go:

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/27300085/

'Over 97% reported at least one of 28 negative outcomes attributed to binding. Frequency (days/week) was consistently associated with negative outcomes (22/28 outcomes). Compression methods associated with symptoms were commercial binders (20/28), elastic bandages (14/28) and duct tape or plastic wrap (13/28). Larger chest size was primarily associated with dermatological problems.'

OP.

Please don't panic. You can take your time, maybe show your daughter the research if you want to tell her you're looking into the matter and haven't forgotten?

FFS zombie thread - predates the bloody pandemic!

Helleofabore · 24/04/2022 22:35

Oh dear. Thanks Titchy.

How very odd! It showed up on the front page of FWR, for me, near the top of the board. I am confused.

OP you know this is not ok, you don’t need us to tell you. You know that your daughter needs to learn to love and accept her changing body, not think of ways to damage it. Forbid the breast binding/ tape, neither are healthy, and work on what ideas she is exposed to. Where is she getting the self hate and misogyny from? If the internet, monitor her access. If a particular school social group, consider withdrawing her. Be careful her male family members m aren’t sexist towards her and making her hate being female. Expose her to positive strong female role models away from the sexist sterotypes promoted by the trans lobby. Maybe army cadets? Church groups? Rock climbers? Volunteering? If she’s searching for ‘her people’ find her a better crowd.

FFS my teen DD is not trans and she hates her breasts and would do anything to have smaller ones, or to be able to get rid of them altogether. Hating your boobs isn’t a sign of anything other than being a normal teenage girl.

The fact that girls are being encouraged to damage themselves in the name of dysphoria, instead of being supported to accept the TOTALLY NORMAL bodily changes they’re going through is sickening.

Must be one of the many glitches of the new ‘improved’ site!

@PeggyGuggenheim what did you decide and how did it work out for your child? If you don’t mind me asking x

@DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult how is your child doing now, 4 years on? I hope you and they are ok x

It's a zombie 🧟‍♀️

That said, I hope things worked out for the OP and her daughter.
