‘All about me’ Sex & Relationships primary education

I’ve recently found out that my child’s school is using ‘All about me’ as their sex and relationship education. This is apparently advised by the local authority the school is part of.

I’ve had a quick look thorough articles that google has linked to and there seem to be lots that show that it includes teaching six year olds about masturbation. This seems to contravene safeguarding laws that prohibit adults sexualising children.

I’ve also been alarmed to read in one of the documents that seems to be from the ‘All about me’ literature that their guidance on children being touched by others is
“ Children will learn that no one should be touched in a way they find uncomfortable and what to do if someone does.”
While this sounds reasonable in one sense, I think this reminds me of the change that the NSPCC made regarding sexual contact and how they changed it to something only being wrong if the child doesn’t like it. From my understanding, sexual contact with a child is wrong regardless of whether the child says they are comfortable with it. The same with being touched. There should be no ambiguity regarding sexual contact with a child. The language used in ‘All about me’ in this regard seems confusing at best and dangerous at worst as it would allow a groomed child to think that their abuse was acceptable.

Here’s the document I found when googling:

The man who has written this Johnny Hunt - twitter handle @littlerubberhat has recent tweets endorsing giving children puberty blockers.

Feeling worried about this being taught to my child.

Does anyone have anymore info on this? Or thoughts on whether this seems ok?

Is it normal if I request the exact literature from the school?

It was removed from the Warwickshire County Council website pending an investigation as a result of pressure from Click Off and SafeSchoolsAlliance.

You're right to be concerned, the content is abhorrent - I've seen things on the Sextionary I have never needed to know as an adult. The age range is also deeply concerning.

I understand there is no update currently. I'd look at both the above and go directly to your Senior Safeguarding Officer at the school and if necessary escalate to the county council and your MP. Have a search on here as there was a thread that provided a lot of history to the writer of the programme and his boss.

SSA can provide assistance.

I wouldn't hesitate to pull my child from class if a PHSE lesson is imminent. Can you check the timetable? I hope you get some advice and can get a meeting f with the HY sharpish.

Teen advice makes me worried http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/3701737-Teen-advice-makes-me-worried

I short the sextionary described:
Felching
Sunflowering
Rosebud

And a practice where the girl/woman in the middle of a circle of boys/men gives them blow jobs. It's way worse than just masturbation.

The primary school programme said that children hugging was them displaying their sexuality or something.

Oh my God. My children’s school already think I’m nuts. Should I go in and ask what they are teaching?

OhHolyJesus · 15/01/2020 07:07

I think it's fine to ask, why wouldn't you? The school shouldn't have anything to hide. I'm too old to care what people think.

Orsine · 16/01/2020 20:13

Thanks OhHolyJesus for the very useful info.

I had heard of the horror show of the Warwickshire secondary school stuff but didn’t know that the ‘all about me’ primary school SRE had also been pulled pending investigation.

Before I go to the school to discuss it, I want to have all my facts straight. I’d love if I could have a read of more in depth literature that would show the exact curriculum the teachers are given for following.

I found the brief synopsis quite disturbing (telling children being touched is ok once they are comfortable with it) and the didn’t have anything about masturbation For 6 year olds which I gather was one of the main reasons for the outcry from other parents who became aware of it.

I find it very weird that the man who has written it seems so unaware of children’s safety and health. His aggressive tweets glorifying giving pre pubescent kids drugs to stop their sexual development would lead me to believe that the primary school sex ed he’s published must push gender identity ideology too.

I'm reviving this thread so parents are aware that Jonny Hunt is still peddling his materials in Warwickshire and beyond. His website has been updated and he has produced a new RSE programme for primary schools called 'My Feelings, Friends and Family'

www.goingofftherails.co.uk/primary/

The website doesn't give much detail on the course content but I would be very wary of anything written by someone who thinks that 6 year olds need instruction in masturbation and that fisting, felching, and worse are suitable topics for teens.

OhHolyJesus · 14/08/2020 15:26

Thanks Thingy useful to know, especially as many parents will have kids starting school soon and that's enough to think about even if Covid wasn't still around.

I resurrected the above thread. Slightly off topic but it's from 2019 and another parent showed concern and got shunned because of her religious beliefs.
Parents argue that these things should be taught either because they dont know or straight ignorance. Any concerns that parents raise these people ignore it, it doesn't make sense.
I find it amazing how there are hardly any posts on this thread in comparison.
One woman I spoke to at my daughters school said 9 year olds masturbate when I said it's not appropriate to learn these things. Has the world gone flipping mad!
