Period pants for women and girls.

I want to buy dd some period pants, but (a) want to support rationality and (b) want to be sure that any literature that comes with the pants uses accurate language.

Can anybody recommend a suitable brand? They don't need to be super amazing, as they'll be for night-time use to backup a pad.

Modibodi are brilliant. I have very light periods, but the light flow pants are fine all day. Overnight once I had a randomly pretty heavy bleed for me and could feel the difference in the morning, but it did just about contain it.

Hi. Me and my daughter use period pants. We've got them from Modi Bodi (my daughter has the swimwear from here), Cheeky Wipes, Tulip Pants and Inco-Elite. DD1 started her period at 10 and uses with the bamboo reusable pads on heavier days.

Any views on how they cope with being machine washed? Don't fancy the hand washing and inevitably they will end up in the machine even if unintentionally

MrsSpenserGregson · 14/01/2020 13:03

@CloudPop they are fine in the machine, no shrinking / changing of shape or elasticity at all

If your dd did find she needed to change period pants once during a long day before getting home, but really couldn't, then a way round that could be to use a pad on top for the morning, then remove it at lunchtime (or before PE) and go with just the pants from then on.

No worries then about being seen carrying a new pad to the toilets, and much less rustling if she's only removing rather than also replacing a pad. (For even less rustling, cloth pads are brilliant, although you do then need a good way to wrap them up tight to bring home.)

If I had a dd I'd be getting some of the pants for her as a matter of course. Even if I'd gone for some other kind of protection as the main thing, having them as a backup would have been so reassuring when I was at school. I was still getting used to things and could be taken by surprise by a heavy day or not getting the chance to go to the toilet when I needed to. The thought of pants that were leakproof while still feeling like normal ones would have just seemed amazing and would have removed a lot of my anxiety.

I love the Modibodi ones although I haven't tried any others to compare.

Iwtjtip · 14/01/2020 13:08

I don't think Modibodi say you have to hand wash them - I'm machine washing mine anyway and they're fine so far.

Whathappenedtothelego · 14/01/2020 13:15

I use Modibodi and cheeky wipes. I have heavy flow and quite intense flooding at times on the first couple of days. Cheeky wipes have leaked through a tiny bit, Modibodi have not. It would always have gone on my clothes with pads before - they are a revelation - more reliable than pads for me.
I change when I get home from work and again before bed on heavy days.
I do get clots, you can wipe them away, or change if convenient.

Beamur · 14/01/2020 15:18

Modibodi suggest a quick handwash when you take them off and then machine wash. I just put them in the wash and it's been fine. Perfectly clean and no shrinking.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 14/01/2020 15:25

I use just some cheapo non-branded from ebay, and I'm happy with them.

I will say, that I don't entirely agree about it being fine to keep them on all day - yes, they're good and don't leak (although I do wear a pad or cup the first day or two because I bleed quite a bit) but it does feel bloody weird to pull cold, slightly wet pants back up and on (or perhaps I just have a really cold bathroom and take too long on the toilet)

Have just got some from WUKA for DD, so far so good. If yr size is in stock its very quick delivery.

This is what puts me off trying...don’t they er....smell a bit grim too?

SpeedofaSloth · 02/05/2020 14:20

Does the swimwear version really work? I don't like tampons so don't swim during my period, this sounds interesting but too good to be true?

SirVixofVixHall · 02/05/2020 23:07

I have just ordered a pair from modibodi. Will get dd to have a look and see what style she might like to try.
