Excellent. Tribunal was unanimous according to lunchtime news.

I just watched this on the BBC news - very happy that she won and it was nice to the see the word sex being correctly used

ArranUpsideDown · 10/01/2020 13:33

Excellent news. No wonder the BBC was trying to settle other claims ahead of this verdict.

PracticallyFamous · 10/01/2020 13:34

Excellent news, good on her for bringing this case.

RoyalCorgi · 10/01/2020 13:34

Brilliant news.

MrsOnions · 10/01/2020 13:52

Brilliant!

HuckfromScandal · 10/01/2020 17:02

Awesome news
Very pleased

Helmetbymidnight · 10/01/2020 17:04

ha! so pleased for her. They've got a bloody cheek.

Doyoumind · 10/01/2020 17:16

I'm very pleased about this. I'm surprised not to find more about it on MN. These are the kinds of cases that can make an impact on women's careers and pay.

VinandVigour · 10/01/2020 17:27

In response, the BBC insisted the pay for Ahmed and Vine "was not determined by their gender".

No, it was determined by their sex.

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 10/01/2020 17:31

Ha! Very good point Vin

TheCuriousMonkey · 10/01/2020 17:34

It's on R 4 at the moment. A good piece except for the repeated use of the bloody word gender.

The case is about SEX discrimination. The relevant part of the Equality Act is called SEX EQUALITY. That part of the act uses the word SEX 45 times. Gender is not used at all.

Sorry to shout.

Mockers2020Vision · 10/01/2020 17:40

You could complain to Newswatch.

Doyoumind · 10/01/2020 17:58

Grin Mockers

Soulstirring · 10/01/2020 18:00

I think she was wonderful for pursuing it through! What a victory.

BorissGiantJohnson · 10/01/2020 18:02

Yuck. Slimy bunch of bastards. They regret this case ever had to go to tribunal - but they argued the fucking toss during the tribunal that the roles were very different (they weren't) and that there wasn't sex discrimination (there was)! They don't regret anything except getting caught and getting called out. Do better BBC.

DeeZastris · 10/01/2020 18:04

All the bloody preaching they do and they are a bunch of sexist arseholes.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 10/01/2020 18:08

Whoop!

Novina · 10/01/2020 18:10

Fantastic!

tilder · 10/01/2020 19:23

Brilliant news. Also brilliant to see so many high profile women in media supporting her.

Am still waiting for any honesty in these cases from the bbc. £3000 vs £440 per episode. How can they stand there with a straight face and claim no discrimination?

Haworthia · 10/01/2020 19:24

Delighted for Samira.

The judgement is really scathing. Excellent.

Ereshkigal · 10/01/2020 19:41

Well done Samira!

SleepDeprivedElf · 10/01/2020 20:06

Excellent news. I can't believe the BBC had the balls to argue that Vine had a "glint in his eye" - what a load of old sexist shite.

boatyardblues · 10/01/2020 20:21

Brilliant news. Well done Samira! We all know which of you is really worth £3k an episode and it isn’t smug, annoying Jeremy. I think FWR would probably manage a whip round to pay Jeremy NOT to present. I’m still mentally scarred by a particularly long MRI scan last spring where the technician had put headphones on me before leaving the scanning room and I was stuck with Vine’s R2 Brexit phone-in for the duration. 🤯

DeeZastris · 10/01/2020 20:28

I genuinely can’t stand Jeremy Vine - his BBC radio 2 programme is absolute shite.

tilder · 10/01/2020 20:41

Jeremy Vine is like an audio version of the Daily Mail. All that fake outrage.
