Another good article in the medical press, probably one of the first I have seen really breaking down the issues in the UK, in particular highlighting the lack of evidence in the current protocols for treating children with gender dysphoria
Pull everyone!

Cannae read it. Unless I identify as a medical professional, which my innate pedantry resists ...

Three comments so far which can be read without registering.
Very sensible comments from concerned medics.

Didactylos · 04/01/2020 18:33

Oh gods, sorry. Thought it was public access

No need to apologise, there are other articles and the comments are accessible and these are worth reading.

Decent comments from medics.
It makes a real change.

Don't be sorry! I'm glad it's out there! Good to see, and the comments. A shame it's not open access, is all.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 04/01/2020 21:15

It's an excellent (And terrifying) piece.

Thanks for finding a link Scrimshaw. Just another article amongst many but thought it was a good one for clarity and the audience its aimed at

Interesting, thanks for posting. 30 psychotherapists resigned in 3 years! Shock

Also this stood out, from the pediatric endocrinologist who refers children to GIDS
"Another area of uncertainty relating to blocking puberty - which I am aware of through the media - suggests that blocking puberty might reinforce or amplify a patient's own uncertainty about their gender by preventing the natural process of puberty"

I'm sorry, aware of through the media? Isn't it his job to be aware of this stuff?! Am I reading that wrong? Thanks to all the feminists who risked their jobs and safety to speak out, cos these pediatric endocrinologists wouldn't have thought of it otherwise?!

Kilbranan · 05/01/2020 23:01

So the psychologists are newly graduated and dealing with around 4 times as many patients as they should be. And no one with specialist autism spectrum training or knowledge...what a shitshow. Surely our children deserve better than this Sad
It’s a great article though and very detailed

It's good because it's from a medical viewpoint, Didactylos, which I don't often get to read.

And yes, the points about all the experienced staff leaving and being replaced by stff without the right experience/knowledge is appalling.

Kids deserve better, indeed. Trans people deserve better. If the TRAs would stop shouting transphobia, maybe we could all help to get the services improved - surely that's in everyone's interests?
