This was interesting. They completely bypass trans issues online, which would illustrate much of what they said, and it has already happened.

Fingers in ears and all that.

I was listening too and thought it was worth flagging for other FWRers. I thought it worked equally for how the whole trans agenda suddenly took off, and potentially for women getting really angry about this too. The bit about YouTube changing its algorithms in 2015 to push more niche content instead of most popular/trending and how that sends people down rabbit holes was interesting. I wondered if it was a factor with referrals to the Tavi taking off and ROGD in the last few years.

I’m certain many of the TRA accounts (and supportive accounts) on SM are shit-stirrers of one kind or another.

So I can muster concern about Jane Fae, the doctor and the golfing lawyer, for example, but I’m not losing too much sleep over anonymous, anime-avatared bollocks that any kid in their mum’s basement could’ve written.

That was when google took over YouTube right? And it became automatic that your YouTube account was linked to your google email as standard. Which is very creepy. And ofcourse anything you google then comes up with related suggestions in your yt feed.

Such a shame considering where you tube started. It really had a golden age in the first few years and what Lisa Donavan did with Maker studios is utterly incredible and appears to be lost knowledge these days. We have the likes of social network about how about groundbreaking zuckenberg was but I think going from making yt vids in her own room to selling maker studios for half a billion in the space of a few years is way more incredible, especially when you take into account the number of small female you tubers filming around their families she helped build the careers of.

About 20 years ago it was beginning to be understood that Yahoo's, and other's, attempts to become people's sole portal to the Internet, so that their experience of the Internet would be under the control of Yahoo and others, would not be happening. There were many sighs of relief that people would be free to go looking for whatever took their fancy.

Look how that return to the Golden Age worked out. I struggle to see how there will be another open Internet Golden Age.

VMisaMarshmallow · 22/12/2019 21:26

I was just referring to the golden age of YouTube (not tinternet as a whole) when they had original, funny creative content from actors who couldn’t get ahead in sexist Hollywood bs. Before it became about Hollywood actors flogging shit because they make more money doing that than their actual careers.

And it will always be golden age on my yt, I rewatch the same sh

Ooops

Was saying I watch the same stuff repeatedly every morning doing make up, 2007 everyday on my you tube.

(I do make an exception for Michael Cera’s short films and Mathew Grey Gublers unatherised documentaries when it comes to holly actors though).

Fuck I’m too tired to type properly, sorry

nauticant · 22/12/2019 21:40

I was just musing (ie I've had wine) that there have been a series of Internet (or Web, or youtube, or whatever) Golden Ages with each seeming to be shorter than the last and far narrower.
