Jaden Smith as a new face of womenswear might seem progressive - but he's on transgender territory

The danger for trans women is that if wearing what are traditionally women’s clothes becomes the norm for men too, then trans women will no longer be able to rely on these props to help them display a female gender identity - and for many, that could be a serious problem.

Of course it will take time - a long, long time even - for things to change to the extent where men wearing skirts and girly stuff will be totally acceptable.

But trans people should be aware that well-known faces like Jaden Smith are starting to encroach on our territory. They’re starting to wear the trans uniform without actually stating that they are transgender, and they’re claiming it for themselves under the guise of gender-neutral fashion. All of which begs the question: where does that leave us?

Jaden Smith could teach his long lost cousin Sam a few things I suspect...

Oh, ffs. The trans uniform ? The 'disguise' of gender neutral ?

Let Jaden wear what he wants, you authoritarian nutcases!!!

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 19/12/2019 07:51

How ridiculous

Anyway I thought it was impossible to Tell what sex someone is, so the clothing shouldnt make a difference

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 19/12/2019 07:52

Exactly jane

Im not wearing a skirt just cos some random on the internet has decided thats ‘my uniform’

And Jayden should be the same

EmpressLesbianInChair · 19/12/2019 07:54

This is from 2016, I remember it.

High heels are coming in for men. Maybe Izzard doesn’t have ‘girl genes’ after all. www.thetimes.co.uk/article/high-heels-for-men-are-in-fashion-though-at-900-they-may-leave-you-a-bit-short-rzh5hjcrn?shareToken=7535ab948cf5f3a90bbb94e1260b6c61

I'm glad this article has resurfaced because I wanted to find it recently.

It's great for proof that transgenderism seeks to absolutely uphold rather than to subvert gender stereotypes.

NekoShiro · 19/12/2019 07:58

Surely we should be celebrating moving towards a time where men can choose to wear dresses or skirts just like I can choose to wear trousers or suits,

The wording of the post makes it sound like someone who is being trans for the status of it, like the mental path sounds like, I am trans and I wear womens clothing as a uniform to show that I am a woman not a man and now that men are wearing womens clothes I won't be instantly recognisable as a woman I might be mistaken as a man wearing feminine clothes, but surely thats a sexist thought, womens clothes are just for women.

Clothes are just bits of fabric we cover ourselves with so were not naked and can stay clean, if you tell me your a woman then I will refer to you as such, no need to worry about what other people are doing with their clothing.

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 19/12/2019 07:59

Deep down your real job is to reproduce, and showing other humans your gender is the first step on that path.

That's SEX not gender.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 19/12/2019 08:00

Oh, knock yourselves out, lads. You're more than welcome to the delights of heels, falsies and underwired garments.

Heels were invented for a short man, after all.

HandsOffMyRights · 19/12/2019 08:00

Of course it will take time - a long, long time even - for things to change to the extent where men wearing skirts and girly stuff will be totally acceptable.

Not sure what "girly stuff" is Confused
I am a woman, but once I was a girl who wore trainers, an army shirt, jeans and rode a Grifter.

I think this wally missed the New Romantics, Beckham's sarong, not to mention all those men hounded for wearing kilts.

Not to mention David Bowie, Marc Bolan and Jimi Hendrix.

SarahTancredi · 19/12/2019 08:03

Jayden can wear what the hell he likes! As should any other man! Or woman for that matter!

Personally I think we need more of it. Men who stick to fingers up to stereo types and do what they like. As men.

DeeZastris · 19/12/2019 08:04

TRAs just seem to be so controlling - deciding what we can wear, say, think and do. Will they ever be happy even if they achieve all that? I seriously doubt it.

SarahTancredi · 19/12/2019 08:04

Apologies Jaden. I misspelled your name.

Jaden

When you get out of bed in the morning the most important thing you have to do all day is tell the world what your gender is, because from that, everything else flows....Deep down your real job is to reproduce, and showing other humans your gender is the first step on that path

Think you’ll find finding someone of the opposite sex is required for reproduction. Not Gender whatever that is.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 19/12/2019 08:08

When you get out of bed in the morning the most important thing you have to do all day is tell the world what your gender is, because from that, everything else flows. You may think that your job is to be an office supervisor or a stockbroker or police officer but these are all human constructs. Deep down your real job is to reproduce, and showing other humans your gender is the first step on that path.

I'm pretty sure the most important thing I have to do today is buy my mum a birthday card and wrap her present.

As for reproduction, been there, done that, no gender involved and when I met my partner he had long hair, was wearing fishnet tights under ripped jeans and eye-liner. He was quite obviously a man, well a boy really he was only 19 at the time.

Incidently I saw an image of a man with flowing locks wearing a long flowing dress from 2000 years ago on the telly last night. He often seems to appear on my screen this time of year. Jayden Smith is a millennia or two late to the party.

Bezalelle · 19/12/2019 08:41

This blows the lid of the whole TRA ideology.

It's ALL about stereotypes.

And the fact that this is leading to minors being pumped with hormones and having healthy limbs removed, and gender critical people being taken to court (and losing) is frankly terrifying.

JanesKettle · 19/12/2019 09:34

What I'd really like to see is the nitwits writing this tripe fronting up to the men at my local Samoan church who wear skirts every Sunday, and see what happens when they tell them to 'stop wearing our uniform'.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 19/12/2019 09:38

Or turning up at the Highland Games...

snowblight · 19/12/2019 10:16

How come women on hear frequently say it should be ok for men to express emotions, behave in a less masculine manner etc and yet everything a trans woman does is immediately piled upon as some kind of parody of being a woman. I recently read a thread where people were making sarcastic 'oh, that's the womanly thing to do isn't it?' type comments about a trans woman who had been seen crying. I mean, how do you know that that person wasn't just as happy to express their emotions before transitioning?

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 19/12/2019 10:25

^**Of course it will take time - a long, long time even - for things to change to the extent where men wearing skirts and girly stuff will be totally acceptable.^

They should take a stroll round the National Gallery noting all the 17th/18th century male aristocrats wearing high heeled shoes with lace and silk bows on. Puffy silk and lace trousers, velvet decorated jackets and long curly wigs. This really isn’t new.

Bezalelle · 19/12/2019 10:26

and yet everything a trans woman does is immediately piled upon as some kind of parody of being a woman.

What else could it be? Being a woman means having XX chromosomes. Anything else is a performance.

JanesKettle · 19/12/2019 10:44

It's a facsimile of being a woman. Because only people born female can grow up to become women.

Transwomen are transwomen, not women.

TyroSaysMeow · 19/12/2019 11:25

I'm not sure showing the entire world my gender is necessary for reproducing. I managed it just fine by showing my fanny to a single male specimen. While wearing no makeup whatsoever.

And, just to throw the cat amongst the pigeons, the male in question was wearing ladypants yet somehow managed to impregnate me.

Non-feminine and feminine garment-wearers copulated, and the resulting gestation fell to the hairy and unfrilly female. How peculiar...

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 19/12/2019 16:59

The danger for trans women is that if wearing what are traditionally women’s clothes becomes the norm for men too, then trans women will no longer be able to rely on these props to help them display a female gender identity - and for many, that could be a serious problem.

And there it is. I've never seen anyone on these boards argue seriously against trans women's rights to self-determination.

Where problems arise is when vocal activists are hellbent on re-determining everyone else to affirm THEIR identity presentation. Which presents an interesting little catch 22. Why should it matter what they, or men for that matter, choose to wear? TWAW, are they not?

People can wear what they damned well please.

FWRLurker · 19/12/2019 18:10

WHAT THE ACTUAL... this may be the most sexist thing I’ve ever read?!?!?!?!

When you get out of bed in the morning the most important thing you have to do all day is tell the world what your gender is, because from that, everything else flows....

FannyCann · 19/12/2019 19:23

When you get out of bed in the morning the most important thing you have to do all day is tell the world what your gender is, because from that, everything else flows.

Don't know about you lot, but I stagger out of bed, with the main goal of arriving at work on time. Then I wear gender neutral scrubs, which tell the world what my job is and I'm pretty sure most of the patients/general public who see me hope that I am competent, safe and kind at my work and don't give a fuck what my gender is. If they were to think about it at all I expect they would like to think my thoughts are focused on them rather than how I am presenting and being perceived and whether I have got it right so that they can all tell what my gender is.
