Just wanted to post about this because it’s a bloody amazing achievement whatever you think of darts as a sport

And one of the best things was how the mostly Male crowd were rooting for her to do it.

Well done Fallon, fantastic game.

Parky04 · 18/12/2019 07:54

There is absolutely no reason at all why woman can't compete and win against men at darts. In fact, darts is one game where everyone can compete against each other.

MIdgebabe · 18/12/2019 08:08

Many sports have "open" and women's competitions rather than men's and women's,

Darts is a really interesting one. Normally in women's darts the ochy ( where they stand) is closer for women who tend to be shorter...not sure if the board is also lower though, which would make sense to me, Would be interesting if there is a body shape / size that is helpful , and if that favours either sex given the location of the ochy and height of the board.

( is suspect shorter people with shorter arms (women) are disadvantaged at snooker for example)

At least that is a subtle physical question not just power , weight and speed

Fantastic achievement

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 18/12/2019 08:16

I know much more about snooker than darts and yes, short stature is a disadvantage up to a point, but being very tall is also a disadvantage causing back problems, alignment problems with hips being higher than the table, and encouraging avoidance of using the rest which can become a bad habit (I'm looking at you Matthew Stevens).

I suspect it is women's breasts that are more of an issue, getting in the way of a true cue action.

Anyway, congratulations to Fallon, well done her opponent for taking his 'pantomime villain' role in good spirit and lets hope this inspires Reanne Evans on to her first win on the snooker tour.

....But Darts requires a manly physique:

LizzieSiddal · 18/12/2019 12:23

It’s it a fantastic achievement. Hopefully she will inspire other women to go for it in the main championships.

PurpleHoodie · 18/12/2019 16:58

Fantastic. Well done, Fallon.

Watched it on GMB: they kept replaying her winning moment. The roar from the - mainly male - crowd was amazing. Well deserved.

MistleToeSucker · 18/12/2019 17:02

I watched it, it was amazing. At first i thought she had no chance but she got better and better.

I was only saying to the dc the other day why women weren't in this competition as there's no reason why they can't play as well as the men!

Goosefoot · 18/12/2019 17:36

Is the reason competitive darts has separate women's leagues mainly because not many women play?

CaveMum · 18/12/2019 18:37

Congratulations to Fallon, a great achievement.

I will hold my hand up and say that when I heard this story on the radio this morning my first instinct was to Google so I could check that it was an actual woman that had won. Oh how much of a cynic I am these days!

Kit19 · 18/12/2019 18:44

goosefoot

basically yes - Not many women play for lots of historic reasons, the PDC want to change that which is brilliant

my sister used to play for her pub darts team in the local darts league, she was the only woman playing across all of the pubs involved
