Came across this excellent graphic from Lincolnshire Police. I think it needs sharing far and wide.

I would like to know one thing though.

How can they make videos like the tea videos then when exactly the scenarios in said videos occur theres still confusion around what refusing tea actually means and assuming someone in lounging around clothes was actually all ready for tea despite refusing it multiple times.Confused

WomanBornNotWorn · 17/12/2019 09:28

It's great after so many posters policing the behaviour and choices of women that this graphic exists!

JJSS123 · 17/12/2019 09:39

Wow! Proud to be from Lincoln for this! X

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 17/12/2019 11:30

I also don't like the tea/consent video because I think it trivialises sexual assault somewhat. There are situations where someone might make you a cup of tea without asking you if you want one, and you don't really want the tea, but you drink it to be polite. You don't feel violated by it and you might actually enjoy the tea once you've started to drink it. I would not want that particular analogy to be applied to rape.

message is spot on

SarahTancredi · 17/12/2019 11:35

Yy eoin

I was particularly uncomfortable about the part that said they know it's annoying when you have gone to all the effort of making the tea and they decide they dont want it..

Why would you insinuate it's ok to be angry that someone doesnt want sex with you? How gracious of you to realise they dont have an obligation Hmm

Thesuzle · 17/12/2019 11:39

Bangle bong, can you send that list to all the police forces in the country please

FAQs · 17/12/2019 11:39

The tea video is from Thames valley, looks like Lincs Police are closing any misinterpretation.

GCAcademic · 17/12/2019 11:42

Wow. I'm really surprised by this. I was genuinely expecting to open this thread and find one of the usual bits of info from the police suggesting that women are the cause of rape.

OrlandoInTheWilderness · 17/12/2019 11:49

Another Proud Lincolnshire poster here!
Simple and says it all doesn't it.

Binglebong · 17/12/2019 14:19

It really does Orlando.

Same. It also implies that consent is a really hard concept to grasp when it really isnt. Men arent really that stupid that they dont know what they are doing. I bet they would know full well what consent entailed if they were being touched up or hassled by another man.

Somehow society has seen fit to excuse it though and make out that it's easy to 'accidentally' assault or rape someone without meaning too.

Binglebong · 17/12/2019 17:02

I quite like the tea one because to me it mocks the people who claim it is hard to tell.

OP posts:
SarahTancredi · 17/12/2019 17:16

The mocking is unnecessary though.

They know what they are doing. They always have done . Even the bloody dog knows the word "no" .

All it does is reduce the violation of a womans ( or mans) body to a joke and tell them that it's ok for the man to be angry they didnt get to have sex.

Women fear angry men. It's why many go through with stuff they dont want to in the first place . Because sex is always where men get nasty. It misses the point completely imo

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/12/2019 17:24

Very happy to live in Lincolnshire right now

Antibles · 17/12/2019 17:37

I like the tea video.

Some men do feel that they are owed sex when they have invested a certain amount of time or money in the encounter or have got to a certain point in the proceedings.

The video points out that none of this matters. You're not owed sex regardless of what investment or efforts you think you have made and you are not entitled to be angry if you don't get sex after all, no angrier than if you made someone a cup of tea and they decided not to drink it or fell asleep before drinking it.

Allinadaystwerk · 17/12/2019 17:40

I like the graphic it makes the point clear and simple.
As for the tea video, I see the point it's trying to make but the trivialisation and humour is misplaced. I found it a bit triggering for me personally (and i dont trigger so easily these days)..but that's down to my personal experience. Not understanding, grasping, respecting, and giving consent is not funny....at all

avocadoze · 17/12/2019 17:42

Excellent work by Lincolnshire Police. Hope they spread this to the other forces. Really clear message.

Binglebong · 17/12/2019 19:43

Allinaday Flowers I know that's not why you said it but all I can offer. And you deserve them.

Allinadaystwerk · 17/12/2019 20:37

Why thank you @binglebong. Kinda just came out as these things do now n then. Smh

EoinMcLovesCakeJumper · 17/12/2019 22:08

The campaign is great and all, but it only really means anything if Lincolnshire Police walk the walk and pursue rape complaints in a way that doesn't retraumatise the victims. Are they any better than any of the other police forces in this respect? In view of the statistics that have been all over the news today, it would very much make them the exception.

DonutMan · 18/12/2019 02:01

I think it's good to see the culpability laid at the feet of the perpetrators rather than the elusive trope of 'rape culture'.
