WPUK Brighton meeting: my complaint to Sussex Police about their behaviour

WomanBornNotWorn · 16/12/2019 16:21

I was one of the crowd of (mostly) women at the Brighton WPUK meeting in September.

It was attacked by a mob of TRAs in a well documented incident. There are reports and videos online showing the police stood by, staring into space or at their phones, while plate glass windows over our heads were kicked and punched for several hours before the police finally moved them back.

I felt I had to complain about the initial attitude and behaviour of the police, and I've just received the following message:

'Good Afternoon

With reference to the below, I have prepared a response which I am hoping to send out in the next couple of days.

Kind Regards
Angie Pye

7/12/19:
'I refer to your complaint against police and write to inform you that the matter is still under investigation and enquiries are not yet complete.

We will notify you of any developments in due course.

Yours sincerely
A Pye'

I'll report back with the complaint result.

Interesting-this is indefensible but they'll come up with something.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 16/12/2019 16:33

Good luck with holding them to account. Shocking dereliction of their duties to keep the peace.

LangCleg · 16/12/2019 16:47

I hope it's positive. Forlornly, I expect.

Thank you for doing this.

Milanimilani · 16/12/2019 17:26

Fingers crossed for you. All these state orgs claim to hold themselves to account but then do everything they can not to.

HandsOffMyRights · 16/12/2019 17:32

Thank you for pursuing this.
I'm interested to see what on earth they could come back with that would EVER justify such a ferocious assault on women and their right to meet.

Maybe they're consulting with Stonewall...

MedusasButterDish · 16/12/2019 17:35

Have you shared your experience and results with the Fair Cop campaign? www.faircop.org.uk/contact

fuckitywhy · 16/12/2019 17:35

Sadly they were probably acting on orders from above, and the ones above aren't likely to be apologetic.

TalkingintheDark · 16/12/2019 17:39

Contrast their inaction with the actions of the City of London police (I think it was?) who forcibly removed Dr Julia Long from that Accenture event, even though she had a ticket for it and was sitting down quite peaceably, and causing no disturbance at all.

It’s genuinely chilling, the difference.

All these police forces captured and in thrall to the TRAs.

Just hope the outcome of the Fair Cop judicial review is a rational one.

Good luck OP and well done for making a complaint. You rock ⭐️

That’s appalling. I can’t understand how this is happening. WTF is going on with the police? What can be done about it? Surely the government should be concerned about this? I am hoping that someone in government will look at all these examples of threats, intimidation, no platforming, violence and do something about this. It’s unacceptable that women are being intimidated like this while the police do nothing

Muminabun · 17/12/2019 10:41

The police are on the side of the protesters, they have been trained for years by mermaids, a non expert lobby group. The police leaked the previous WPUK meeting location so it had to be changed at the last minute. The police were prepared to put attendees in danger and to assist in riot preparation for the mob of protesters. The police are not impartial.

Milanimilani · 17/12/2019 12:26

Isn’t it terrifying when you have to keep your movements secret from the police?

SunsetBeetch · 17/12/2019 13:15

I wish you the best of luck,OP. The video footage of this was shocking.

OvaHere · 17/12/2019 13:40

Good luck OP. The capture of the police is truly chilling.

Sicario · 17/12/2019 13:54

Police capture will certainly be under the spotlight sometime in the not too distant future. The police have become Stonewall's private army - and the police seem unaware that they are breaking the law and their own codes of conduct.

This is a matter for Parliament.

Michelleoftheresistance · 17/12/2019 14:08

the police seem unaware that they are breaking the law and their own codes of conduct.

The police are aware; they argue as most captured bodies do, that breaking those laws and codes are justified when it's on the side of Righteousness in trans issues. Quis custodiet ipsos custodes, when a political lobby has been allowed to capture the organisation?

Look at the evidence supplied in Harry's case against the police, the verdict of which should thoroughly expose this, and yes, absolutely should lead to questions being asked in Parliament. The police failure in this is massive on multiple fronts.

Michelleoftheresistance · 17/12/2019 14:09

Incidentally both Harry and Maya's cases seem to be taking a long time to come to the promised, pre Christmas conclusion?

I wonder how much those judges are being leaned on.

CrissmussMockers · 17/12/2019 14:24

No judge worthy of the funny wig will have any truck with being leant on.

WomanBornNotWorn · 17/12/2019 17:15

Although I didn't engage, apparently the attitudes of the police to other attendees was ... dismissive. Contrast the security guard who was ACE. He put himself between me and one of the protestors (a much bigger bloke) who'd got round the back as we were heading for the station.

Latest from Sussex Police:

' I refer to the above complaint and my previous update. My response is with my supervisor for review and it is unlikely to be sent as planned.

I apologise for the delay and will keep you updated.

Kind Regards Angie'

"Unlikely to be sent as planned ..." Is there a bit of a panic on over this?

OP posts:
SawingForTeens · 22/12/2019 18:42

Woah. I hope so

Sicario · 22/12/2019 18:43

They are hoping that you will go away with your pesky questions about your legal rights and the police (not) upholding the actual law.

I expect they are also busy revising their story and passing the buck.

fuckitywhy · 22/12/2019 18:46

Maybe. But in my line of work, a response to a complaint like this would probably be checked by someone senior before being sent. It might be that they're all overworked/understaffed and it keeps getting delayed?

nauticant · 22/12/2019 21:07

Incidentally both Harry and Maya's cases seem to be taking a long time to come to the promised, pre Christmas conclusion?

To be fair, in Miller vs College of Policing, Justice Knowles said he would try to get his judgement out by Christmas but anyone listening to him in the court understood this to be a hope rather than an expectation. On the positive side he seemed to be wide awake and questioning during the hearing and the issues raised are so thorny I'd much prefer him (assuming I've got his gender correct) taking time to hand down something considered and legally sound.

Naturally it might end up as a stitch-up.
