Meanwhile, in Japan ...

A transwoman working in the ministry of economy, trade and industry has received a court-ordered payout of £9,200 as well as permission to use the female toilets without disclosing trans status to co-workers.

The worker started dressing in feminine clothing in 2010 but some female colleagues (who presumably knew the transwoman as a man) requested the transwoman use a separate disabled or women's toilet located further away. These women workers have now lost their single-sex facilities.

Japan is of course a bastion of women's equality (not) ...

Reported in Daily Telegraph and US-based LGBTQ Nation.

And meanwhile in Taiwan

An openly transgender Government Minister.

The first case is pretty dubious, but what's wrong with a open TW entering politics? Are we saying she needs to hide her trans status?

Being openly trans is fine. The Japanese case is taking the piss. The official was offered not only a neutral option (disabled), but another female toilet. No, it had to be the one that the other women used, because their bodies, and their discomfort, is what provides validation - not the sign on the door.
