Social Democratic Party for GC Leavers, maybe?

NC for voting-related postings because observers may guess my constituency.

Searching Twitter feeds of my candidates as I make my final preparations to (probably) spoil my ballot, I came across twitter.com/888Paula/status/1204346742944288770 which was retweeted by my local SDP candidate and then twitter.com/SDPNorthEast/status/1202523254210076672.

In the SDP website's section on tolerance, they write:
We are concerned that our long-standing culture of tolerance has fallen from favour. There is now insufficient viewpoint diversity among the academic and cultural elites who presume to set our nation’s course. A dangerous myth has emerged which holds that cultural questions are capable of rational arbitration which must, inevitably, lead to a single liberal-left view.

Citizens holding a traditional, patriotic or religious outlook are often bullied and marginalised, stifling the open debate upon which a free and democratic society depends. From government to the police, from universities to schools, the politicisation of Britain’s institutions in the service of fashionable ideology is leading to a loss of faith in the pillars that uphold our society. We believe instead, that a free and democratic society must hear different opinions in politeness and respect in order to thrive. We pledge to uphold the values of freedom of thought and speech which lie at the heart of British democracy.

Sadly, the SDP are Leavers and I am a Remainer. Depending on how I feel in the morning, I will either spoil my ballot or set aside my feelings about Brexit and vote for the SDP. Either way, it will not be done lightly. I have never deliberated about a ballot to this extent before in my life.

This should be the foundation of Conservatism. Why aren’t the Conservatives making this point about the existential threat to freedom of speech and thought? And the totalitarian tendencies of those who have a stranglehold on state institutions?

The Liberal Party are also a good bet for a non-big-2, Leave, free speech, GC option.

I hoped the SDP would openly come out in favour of the GC viewpoint, but they have not provided anything specific enough to be convincing. This may, of course, be because it would open them up to the entryism all major parties have been subjected to.

The party seems very male dominated to me. Rod Liddle is a member, and though he’s GC, he’s no feminist.
