Brighton Sussex Hospital think women must have treatment from Dr Shah

Because the men running the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust consider that the wishes of male medics to intimately examine women matter more than the rights of women to ask for same sex practitioners for intimate medical procedures.

This is where we are today.

Meanwhile in Essex...…...……….

ScrimshawTheSecond · 10/12/2019 18:50

Abuse of power comes as no surprise.

Melroses · 10/12/2019 18:52

I was wondering what it had taken to sound the alarm and get him prosecuted. No mean feat.

JellySlice · 10/12/2019 18:54

Interesting that nobody seems to have any difficulty identifying the sex of his victims.

PJsatMidday · 10/12/2019 18:57

Don't be silly, lesbians do this sort of thing all the time (from the Gospel According to Jo Swinson).

Michelleoftheresistance · 10/12/2019 19:04

But it's all fine because the NHS say they took swift action.

Women's lives ruined, which is not fixable in any way, but the NHS did stuff swiftly once they'd been ruined. That makes it all better, right? Why do we even need safeguarding ffs? People can do swift action . And tut.

Laterthanyouthink · 10/12/2019 19:08

Maybe the lawsuits and compensation claims that are going to come will cause a rethink?

SarahTancredi · 11/12/2019 13:29

But it's ok because any inappropriate behaviour will be dealt with....Hmm

Lordamighty · 11/12/2019 13:41

I thought the same when I read about this case. It’s probably going to take a court case to force the NHS to prioritise women’s rights over the rights of an individual employee.

WorkingItOutAsIGo · 11/12/2019 13:50

How can we be going backwards like this?

Santablobby · 11/12/2019 14:02

So swift and effective was the action on this inappropriate behaviour, in fact, that after the first assault there were only 22 more before he was stopped Hmm

LongLiveThePenis · 11/12/2019 14:12

Surely we can just identify out of female specific cancers now. What a time to be alive.

Billy21 · 11/12/2019 14:50

When I was 18 I went to the hospital regarding some lumps (cysts) on my head. The nurse in charge told me to strip completely and put on a gown (you know the kind). Apparently the doctor concerned insisted on examining the patient's whole body for further lumps. Unsurprisingly I made an excuse and left. I often wonder if the lumps had been in my breast, whether he would have asked to examine my scalp.

RoyalCorgi · 11/12/2019 14:57

Sexual abuse by doctors is not uncommon. On Twitter only the other day some woman was going on about how ridiculous it was to suggest that a male nurse would identify as a woman so he could perform cervical smears ("have a glimpse of fanny" was I think the charming expression she used). You have to marvel at how naive some people are.

Does anyone know if Brighton and Sussex's policy on allowing biological males to carry out mammograms is illegal? I know it goes against NHS policy but not sure if it's actually illegal.

Itsallgonetoofar · 11/12/2019 15:06

As a young child I remember the doctor giving me a vaginal/groin exam, even then I thought it was weird as whatever the problem was I knew it was not connected but girl child socialised to be compliant particularly for men in professions like Drs I didn't make a fuss. As far as I know that Dr was never investigated but if he was do you suppose they contacted every female patient to ask if he'd behaved in a dodgy manner?

Uncompromisingwoman · 11/12/2019 15:08

It is unbelievable how the NHS and other professions are suddenly in denial about the known risks that predatory men pose towards women. And how confident they are (alongside the Jo Swinsons & Dawn Butlers of the political world) in expecting women to 'forget' what we know and experience, in favour of pandering to the demands of a tiny proportion of men.

The fact that this is also replicated by businesses like Marks and Spencers just adds to the cognitive dissonance.
