A woman who asked for her NHS breast-screening to be carried out by a female-born clinician was pilloried as a transphobe by a hospital trust

Clare Dimyon, 54, who was raped as a teenager and is a lesbian, wrote formal letters asking to be seen by a “natal female” when she went for a mammogram on Christmas Eve last year.

She made clear that after being violated by a man when she was “little more than a child” she did not consent to intimate procedures being carried out by people born as boys.

Staff at the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust were “visibly shocked” but sympathetic.

The mammographer signed one letter confirming she was female and another letter was placed in Dimyon’s medical records. But two weeks ago she saw her letters highlighted by the trust as examples of “unacceptable” and “highly discriminatory” communications in guidelines to support trans patients and staff.

How is it possible that the medical profession have also signed up to the lal la land of gender.

Surely of any group of people they should know and respect the reality of biological sex.

And be trained to understand respecting patient's privacy and need for post traume support.

I wish it were possible to say oh well this is Brighton, but it seems the whole NHS has been captured and is now compliant with the trans agenda - at the expense of women.

over a year later some sad a certain thing on a tweet and it was like she knew me and thought well of me... it seemed a bit odd so I asked her about it... she said "Well, actually... Im in Sydney and I saw the headline and thought "Gulp...but I gotta read this..." and she did and wept for several hours...because someone gave a damn. I think she was even at work. She had had an horrific experience.

Postscript 2) another funny thing on Twitter and all of a sudden I am speaking to a mother of a girl at the school in the same year...she told me the headmistress (girls school) caught my lesson plan lobbed in the air... and told the kids and teachers in assembly, told them someone did this 'thing' and how it was to help them. She said that... the coverage was grim, many nasty salacious grot, classic victim blaming and at all the girls, that it was grim for two terms except for this one thing. Her daughter came home and told her all about it. "Someone did that for us." I was a teacher it was exactly what I hoped. It gave me so much peace.

this was the original letter, it just fell on the page, I didnt need to correct it, it just fell out so clearly. I wasnt even going to do anything with it and then I thought well why not try?

In fact my 1st #MeToo was in 1998, I was a school teacher, I tried to warn about #RapeinSchools. I can honestly say it was worse than the original assault, my senior colleagues turned on me. I can only describe it as a form of professional crucifixion... I wasnt happy to be right. I couldnt live with what the school in particular the head teacher was doing, it was just awful.

And maybe I can dig out the text for you to use. I have been using this equality language for a LONG time and I can seriously play with their heads!

Grimbelina · 31/07/2021 23:50

Thank you and I am so, so sorry for everything you have been through, and are still going through.

RealHousewifeofBarnardCastle · 31/07/2021 23:52

Ffs this is such bullshit

SourAppleChew · 01/08/2021 01:39

While I think that is an awful thing for the patient to ask, I'm not comfortable with asking patients to se any doctor they are uncomfortable with, even for stupid or unethical reasons.

But surely to assume it’s for unethical reasons is just as bad as assuming that the woman is OP is transphobic? The person in that particular case may have been raped by a POC etc. Similarly, the girls from the Rotherham abuse scandal may not feel comfortable being intimately examined by an Asian individual. It’s a difficult topic and hard to know exactly where to draw the line.

Pommie69 · 02/08/2021 17:21

@SourAppleChew... no it is not hard.... the issue is about MALES... those raped and sexually abused may have particular issues with Asian males but not Asian female clinicians. Those in the Rotherham scnadal were RAPED and sexually abused by MALE people. I have heard of no-one EVER objecting to a female. I was raped by a white male, my willy-phobia relates to them being male NOT to their ethnic origin. I have the same issue with all male clinicians regardless of the ethnic origin but not until after doctors cared for me with total oblivion of the obvious things NOT to do to a female rape survivor which included indecent assault on the operating table because they didnt understand medical CONSENT, nor what it might mean to a rape survivor. You are conlating two issues that do not belong together. That is not how trauma works at all.

Pommie69 · 02/08/2021 17:24

Grimbeline, thank you for kind thought. I am autistic I know the MOJ spreados inside out (better than they do according to Rory Stewart) and I am daughter and granddaughter of doctors... I know mixed wards are dangerous, knew that from the minute they announced them. I cannot place myself at risk of rape, that is NOT going to happen. IF I have to do without NHS medical care because they dont understand a medical condition, then I cannot receive medical attention I need. It is clear. I will do everything to keep myself and other women & girls safe. Then it is not wasted.
