I thought this would be an interesting read for anyone following the Transwomen in Female Sports debacle.

www.nytimes.com/2019/12/05/opinion/i-won-a-world-championship-some-people-arent-happy.html

Quoted from OP-ED :
"Trans women are women. We are female. And we are not taking over. No openly trans woman has set an open elite world record in any sport (remember: mine is in masters racing). No openly trans woman has won an elite world championship in any sport, let alone a medal."

How do fellow mumsnetter's feel about the application of the biological term female to describe Transwomen?

I note that McKinnon carefully avoids mentioning the inconvenient scientific facts - that men retain their much greater cardiac output and lung capacity, and their greater muscle to fat ratio and proportion of fast twitch muscle fibres, after transition. They could lower their testosterone to zero and this would still be true. They are not female and they do not belong in female competitive sport.
If they were acting in good faith, they’d campaign for a separate trans event, rather like the Paralympics, instead of trying to destroy ours.

NotBadConsidering · 06/12/2019 08:31

McKinnon says:

It is a human right to be able to compete after quoting the Olympic charter which saying “The practice of sport is a human right.”

Let’s look at Part 4 in more detail (my bold):

  1. The practice of sport is a human right. Every individual must have the possibility of practising sport, without discrimination of any kind and in the Olympic spirit, which requires mutual understanding with a spirit of friendship, solidarity and fair play.

So, nothing about being allowed to compete however you want then Hmm.

McKinnon is doing what McKinnon does best: why you don’t need to know what you’re talking about [to get published in the NYT].

It’s quite breathtaking that a mediocre male whose philosophy paper is about lying, and who works at a unheard of university has managed to elevate themselves to publication in the NYT. It’s to the utmost credit of McKinnon for managing to do so, and the utmost shame of what has always been considered a prestigious publication.

Didn't Glinner say that McKinnon had changed their name to Veronica? I was hoping that was true. We could call her Ronnie for short.

BTW, I agree with Glinner that McKinnon is a con artist. Their entire raison d'etre is to wind up people like us.

JacquesHammer · 06/12/2019 08:43

I prefer my contact sport colleagues and opponents to be a little less penisy than Rachel.

Veronica Ivy

Veronica Ivy is hilarious.

www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/31794605

"One year of gender-affirming treatment resulted in robust increases in muscle mass and strength in TM, but modest changes in TW. These findings add new knowledge on the magnitude of changes in muscle function, size and composition with cross-hormone therapy, which could be relevant when evaluating the transgender eligibility rules for athletic competitions."

Cycling Federations, please take note. There is no evidence that there is any change in the things that make the difference when explosive muscle power is needed post transition, how ever low McKinnon claims their testosterone levels are. McKinnon is cheating and cycling federations are allowing it.

Lordamighty · 06/12/2019 11:38

consider this: I lose most of my races. I won 5 out of 22 events in 2019

That’s because RMcK is not very good, even with the unfair advantage a biological male body gives.

ThePankhurstConnection · 06/12/2019 11:39

Spurious claims of being female, misconstrued 'facts' and self-centered whining wrapped up in a poorly written opinion piece.

Honestly, once you read the claim of being 'female'' it should be obvious everything else should be taken with a massive dose of salt.

An opinion piece presented with no open comments as if Ronnie's word on the matter was definitive. No change on the misogyny front for the NYT then.

ThePankhurstConnection · 06/12/2019 11:40

Read this after I posted Smile

fridgegrazer · 06/12/2019 12:02

Is that true that McKinnon would not be allowed to compete in the men's competition?

NotTerfNorCis · 06/12/2019 12:44

In October, racing in Manchester, I broke the masters women’s world record in the 200-meter time trial by 0.24 seconds with a time of 11.649 seconds.

Somebody is well aware they are cheating, and is enjoying rubbing it in people's faces.
