I mean as a step (if you think it is possible that is) to redemption. I was discussing this with someone earlier. Options might include disappear permanently, do a new show honestly examining his.behaviour, do some kind of penance. I'd be interested to hear views.

It's a difficult topic to tackle because so many men simply do not view this as a problem. I'm not completely cold to those who want to atone, but quite a lot of them do not wish to atone - they just want it to be swept under the rug and ignored.

I dunno. True forgiveness comes from true regret. You can forgive those who have wronged you unaware. Much harder to forgive those who wronged you in full knowledge that they were doing something that would hurt you.

With a net worth of $25 million he can bloody well spend the rest of his life in seclusion or doing charity work anonymously.

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/12/2019 05:45

A man who exploited his fame to harass women should understand that his fame is an issue. Which means there is nothing he can do to atone to us.

It is possible that if he tries to heal himself, atone to the actual women he hurt, educate and fix his shitty thinking and use his wealth to help women with no power deal with behaviour like his (anonymously) he could feel better about himself. I doubt that's what he wants.

Readytogogogo · 05/12/2019 06:14

From what I've seen he appears to be completely unrepentant. He just expects everyone to get over it.

For me, I would have thought a thorough reflection on why he felt entitled to do it, and how it made the women feel, is the very least he should be doing.

Alanis126 · 05/12/2019 16:24

Maybe an extended absence. Maybe never returning to public life?

I think the entertainment industry the world over has enough sexist misogynists, as I didn't know who he was before I wouldn't miss him if he was never to be seen again.

He could do more good by using his fame to educate others, if he actually reflected and repented at all but I don't think he does...

MrsTerryPratchett · 05/12/2019 19:48

And the reason him and Joss Whedon need to do more is because they pretended to be allies and got all the adulation for that. It's worse than men who don't pretend.

aliasundercover · 05/12/2019 21:09

May I ask what Joss Whedon has done?

aliasundercover · 05/12/2019 21:31

It’s ok, I’ve done a search now.

AutumnRose1 · 05/12/2019 23:02

Irredeemable. 🤷🏻‍♀️

He’s rich enough, he can sit and jerk off the rest of his life.

Durgasarrow · 06/12/2019 16:33

Dig a hole and stay there.

I would appreciate if these guys would specifically point out and publicly reflect on the issue of misogyny and sexual harassment among LEFTIST men. Like, spend some time exploring how he used wokeness and “feminism” as a weird sort of penance for his creepy behavior an that it’s not just him but Is super common. That the dude next door that most loudly claims to be a feminist may be the one that women should most avoid. That maybe men shouldn’t call themselves feminists and should back the fuck up when it comes to conversations about what women want and need.

Anyway I’d like to see acknowledgement that this is a serious widespread issue women deal with from men rather than a apology just for himself.

“ That the dude next door that most loudly claims to be a feminist may be the one that women should most avoid. That maybe men shouldn’t call themselves feminists and should back the fuck up when it comes to conversations about what women want and need. ”

But will anyone care if he says that?

I’m happier with these guys just disappearing really. It’s a good lesson if it’s just career ending, full stop.

If you follow any young(ish) US comedy writers on Twitter, none of them support him. Mike Schurr (showrunner behind The Good Place, Parks and Rec) has openly denounced him. It's only old dinosaurs (likely with skeletons in their own closets) speaking up for him.

This whole obsession with redemption (not yours OP, speaking in general) seems to be reserved for men and something they seem to feel entitled to. I've never heard it used in relation to a woman.

My own thoughts: he's admitted to getting his dick out at work multiple times. He's a danger to women. Imagine if Mark from purchasing admitted to getting his dick out to his female colleagues. How would we deal with him?
