The MOODY PROBLEM

"Today, @UniOfYork
responded to my SAR request. There are SEVENTY PAGES of discussion between Prof. Alan Thomas and admin/pr/legal/academics concerning the MOODY PROBLEM.
Highlights include their response to Ms Stephanie Hayden's (LLB. Hons) & Adrian Harrop's complaint

They are censorious, almost dystopian, ideology-factories, rather than a place for developing the critical thinking and autonomy of their students as they claim to do

MarieIvan,
About a year ago I read an article in The Guardian of all places about an academic who was too frightened to admit to his colleagues that he had voted Brexit. As your grim assessment indicates, the idea that debate is hate speech has been accepted. There is a fanatical refusal in certain quarters to acknowledge dissenting opinions are valid. The use of ‘hate speech’ to silence legitimate debate is increasingly used by a totalitarian faction who have a stranglehold on social sciences.

MOODY BIGOT SIGNING IN.

Well, when I made the SAR request in Oct I was told it was going to take extra time on account of their being "multiple matches" concerning me. I was a bit uncertain as to what that meant but soon found out when I received seventy pages of discussion between Alan Thomas and PR/Legal/admin/academics about HOW DO WE SHUT MOODY UP BECAUSE WE HAVE AN IMAGE.

I'll put up the entire thing later so you can read the insanity for yourself.

Uncompromisingwoman · 04/12/2019 13:42

Thank you DrLouiseJMoody for what you are doing.

As the layers of all this are being peeled back it highlights what a cesspit of lies, bullying, abuse of power and narcissism is underneath - and how many allegedly intelligent people have been caught up in it.

RoyalCorgi · 04/12/2019 13:44

I received seventy pages of discussion between Alan Thomas and PR/Legal/admin/academics about HOW DO WE SHUT MOODY UP BECAUSE WE HAVE AN IMAGE.

Do you reckon these people ever paused to think whether this was a worthwhile use of their time? Whether your thoughtcrime was really so threatening and terrifying to the university's reputation that it required their combined cunning Machiavellian genius to defeat you? It never occurred to them that perhaps, in the scheme of things, they had bigger fish to fry than silencing a young researcher who wasn't even a member of staff??

DrLouiseJMoody · 04/12/2019 13:50

What I do not understand is that I KNOW some of the people trying to come down on me at York agree with what I'm saying because they have told me so in discussion! In writing they are saying something very different and I am astounded at the lack of integrity. I am sometimes criticized for black and white thinking, but I have a sense of what's right, and I have never lied to someone's face like this in a professional context, and certainly not when people's careers are on the line!

Professor Alan Thomas' numerous e-mails to me threatening me with a disciplinary process which he knew never even applied to me constitute harassment and intimidation by a senior academic against, and let's be blunt, a vulnerable woman with considerably fewer resources than himself. Alan could simply send an e-mail to York's legal team to deal with matters whereas I didn't know where to begin (of course, were I an actual employee - rather than being treated as one when they didn't like what I was publicly saying - I would have been able to seek HR advice and take a representative with me to any meetings without incurring significant costs).

I've now made a formal complaint against Alan (I was just waiting on the SAR stuff to make sure I had everything). A dismissive response would be rather stupid given the PR headache their own behaviour is presently causing them.

DrLouiseJMoody

Thanks for doing this. It takes brave, determined people to stand up to this sort of crap.

midcenturylegs · 04/12/2019 14:05

Louise I've not met you but I've listened to you and you have my support.

I have a grad working for me who has said that at her Uni the Woke ideology came very much from the humanities department and outside of that was treated with a sense of bafflement (and ignored when possible). Could these student be engaged with in some way? Not alll students (who study hard sciences, engineering etc) believe in this.

BovaryX · 04/12/2019 14:25

Dr.Louise Moody,
I watched a video of your superb speech at WPUK, it is shocking what has happened to you and it is an indictment of the current oppressive climate. It takes real courage and integrity to do what you’re doing. Academic freedom should be championed in universities. But it takes a real champion to stand up for it when it’s facing such a existential threat. Wishing you the very best

popehilarious · 04/12/2019 14:35

Looking forward to reading the rest of this.

Jux · 04/12/2019 14:41

Thank you Dr Moody. You are a brave champion; we all owe you a debt.

DrLouiseJMoody · 04/12/2019 14:49

You are all MUCH too kind! Like most all of us, I just wander around utterly perplexed about finding ourselves in the upside down. It's not like my views are new: I mean, I've been out since 1997 when Stonewall knew what lesbians were; but now, my sexuality - which I'd considered about as relevant to my being as my toothpaste preference in the morning for years - suddenly became transphobic because a generation of ill-informed students consistently confuse inclusiveness with including EVERYONE, and in turn, I became a SAFEGUARDING RISK.

And I'm supposed to be quiet and not hit up against a Professor with an international reputation? No. I don't think so. See the attached for how he talks about feminists (I've only redacted his FB name as I don't want him deluged!).

The MOODY PROBLEM
DrLouiseJMoody · 04/12/2019 14:50

*not go up against - MN really needs an edit post option!

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 04/12/2019 15:08

@DrLouiseJMoody: I'm sorry you've been put in this position and are having to go to these lengths to expose their behaviour and fight against it. I know this kind of climate only too well. Is there any university out there that isn't up to its neck in Allies: a concept that only very recently I'd have been proud to embrace?

If that's the kind of thing a senior colleague is posting on Twitter, he's extremely unprofessional, and only recently would have been hauled over the coals for damaging his university's reputation. Misogyny and homophobia would not too long ago have renedered any academic persona non grata: now, it seems to have been completely legitimized along with the aggression and threats emanating from a particularly vocal body of activists. I can't recall a more rapid about-face in attitudes toward women in my lifetime. It scares the hell out of me.

Kudos for standing up and fighting against this mire.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 04/12/2019 16:12

Dr. Louise, you are fantastic.
It must be so hard to go up against all of this. You must feel so betrayed that people are agreeing with you in person and then doing this to you.
Are there some holes in need of digging?

Solidarity Louise Wine

Sorry you have to deal with this crap - shocking how quickly they'll throw women under the bus - in order to placate a couple of dubious twitter keyboard warriors!

EwwSprouts · 04/12/2019 17:29

York academics and protecting their reputation... The rapist "McKeown’s barrister Julian Goode handed references from York academics with doctorates, saying: “They support the defendant returning to the university post release."

Louise, I admire your integrity & tenacity.

DrLouiseJMoody · 04/12/2019 17:30

Continue to be overwhelmed - in the best possible way - by all you lovely, lovely people!

Yes, I do feel that I've been betrayed in some rather surprising ways. No good will come of naming people in this saga; but it is certainly one of those situations where you find out who really has your back and who else is busy lying in order to advance their careers. There are one or two who have removed and blocked me on all social media because of this (this after we've gone for e.g. drinks, conferences together etc) and I cannot regard them as anything other than cowards who have closed ranks rather than stood up for what is right; and then there has been support from some very unexpected quarters. I am told: be quiet! But why should I be, really? I owe no-one anything. But I do owe it to myself to know that I at least tried to stand up in the middle of the upside fucking down and call this out.

DrLouiseJMoody · 04/12/2019 17:32

Yes, it does seem that York are supportive of a convicted rapist returning to academia than they are someone who priortizes biological reality over nebulous feelings inside the head.

littlbrowndog · 04/12/2019 17:36

Yeah Louise

Weird that isn’t it

Could it be because he is a man ?

Birdsfoottrefoil · 04/12/2019 17:51

When they said they had a reputation to uphold, exactly what sort of reputation are they seeking to uphold?

Angryresister · 04/12/2019 18:18

I wish there was more the rest of us could do. I am appalled that so called intelligent people can hide behind this ideology and use it to and bully non believers. There need to take a hard look at their actions and stand up and be counted before more women are damaged. We are on you side Louise.

BovaryX · 04/12/2019 18:25

But I do owe it to myself to know that I at least tried to stand up in the middle of the upside fucking down and call this out.

Dr. Louise Moody, I hope that at some point in the future, when the history of this sinister period is written, people will wonder how freedom of speech and thought could come under such relentless, intimidating attack, whilst those in power colluded and encouraged it. There will be individuals whose actions are viewed as courageous and principled and others whose actions will be seen as craven, incomprehensible. Or worse. The fact that you are in this situation is an indictment of the current climate. But your response to it is a testament to your character and your courage. How did we get so far down the rabbit hole?

DrLouiseJMoody · 04/12/2019 18:29

For those who have absolutely nothing better to do with their Weds evening, please lemme know if this works!
