She was asked about the gender recognition act and single sex spaces. Stated she was an ally to a community facing enormous amounts of stigma. Interviewer said no-one was questioning that but that women including those in her own party had concerns.

Nicola then said that they were supporting speeding up the GRC but that they couldn't change the equality act as that was under Westminster so women didn't need to feel concerned. I felt the interviewer wanted to push again but had to move on.

Doesn't answer the issue of GRC starting to be taken as proof of right to access to single sex spaces, taking power out of the equality act and forcing women into mixed sex spaces.

Good to see the question asked but the lack of time to unpick doesn't show the problems to the average listener. Would the interviewer even be able to say that this would create single gender identity but mixed sex spaces?

So Sturgeon is coming down on the side of TRAs. Women just needn't be concerned. Magic. Thanks, Nic.

I'm just wondering when they start to fuck about with the Equality Act, that gets in the way for the TRA's doesn't it? Not that they pay attention to it.

youllhavehadyourtea · 29/11/2019 17:53

So she'd hiding behind/relying on Westminster to protect women and girls via the Equality act, which is not devolved.

Nicola, that's crap policy making from you and you know it. 'Look how progressive we are in Scotland, blah di-blah ( but thank fuck boo to Westminster and the Equality act)'

Except what happens when the equality act gets messed with, per TRA Agenda?

ScrimshawTheSecond · 29/11/2019 18:35

Yes, exactly, youll. Blaming Westminster when it suits, while actually probably quite relieved she doesn't have to face down the big issue and tackle it head on. Doesn't really bode well for independence, does it?

youllhavehadyourtea · 29/11/2019 18:45

TBH I think the Independence ship has sailed. Maybe not a bad thing , all things considered.

Although independence might focus minds on things that actually matter rather than living in unicorn land sidetracked by glittery woke-feelz.

Ironically, you'll know I'm sure that the national animal of Scotland is the unicorn...

When she stands by a marginalised group does she mean women and girls?

I had thought of joining the SNP to try and add to the gender critical voice, but when those kind of statements are coming from the top despite the GRA reforms still being decided then it feels like a losing battle.
