Self-ID is NOT in the SNP manifesto!

Just took a quick look and self-ID is NOT in the SNP manifesto!

There is nothing in there about trans at all, nor about women's sex-based rights in the Equality Act, nor forcing LGBT on primary aged children. There is stuff about women's rights, violence against women and girls, WASPI women, greater representation of women, and they refer to pregnant women, not 'pregnant people'. Phew

A vote for the SNP is a vote to break up the U.K.
It won’t matter what their attitude to self ID is, when you’re living in a bankrupt banana republic which doesn’t even have its own currency and can’t afford to underwrite its own banks.
Please, vote tactically. Pick the non SNP candidate with the largest share of the vote at the last election, and vote for them this time.

Sexnotgender · 27/11/2019 13:36

Unfortunately @babdoc that would be a koolaid drinking labour candidate for me and I’m not sure I can🙁

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 27/11/2019 13:52

Babdoc, does the UK not feel like a failed state to you?

Our prime minister lied to the queen.

He suspended parliament for quite a long time for quite a daft reason.

In my area the non snp candidate with the largest share of the vote is a tory who has done nothing for us since she got in other than write me daft letters about devolved issues.

I'm not voting tory. People are dying as it is from fuel poverty, food poverty, benefit cuts and so on.

And I'm not voting for a lazy daft MP.

Thanks though.

NonnyMouse1337 · 27/11/2019 13:52

Yes, important to bear in mind that what the SNP say for a general election vs what is said for Holyrood.
Self-id is still on the table and we need to see what the second consultation is like.

That said, I generally vote SNP for general elections. Stops Labour and Conservatives from getting too complacent about Scotland.
Good to see the GE manifesto doesn't include self-id, but I prefer to stay skeptical and see how things at the Scottish Parliament play out.

MyMajesty · 27/11/2019 14:00

Just be aware that the SNP's general election manifesto and the their manifesto for the Scottish parliament are two completely different things.

Definitely are.

Tarkus · 27/11/2019 14:00

Couldn’t care less what is in the SNP manifesto. Their only real policy is a blind determination for separatism and nothing else.

Mhairi Black has never been called to account for her vile remarks.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 27/11/2019 14:02

Unlike boris Johnson... oh wait

Tarkus · 27/11/2019 14:03

But Babdoc, it might be a broke banana republic with no banks but we’ll have our freedom !

(What a load of nonsense of course)

Tarkus · 27/11/2019 14:04

Has Boris Johnston called women “cunts”?

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 27/11/2019 14:08

Oh so it's a classist framing of 'beyond the pale ' comments is it?

'Watermelon smiles' nice and literary?
Saying Muslim women wearing burqas look like 'letter boxes' or 'bank robbers' hunky dory?

NonnyMouse1337 · 27/11/2019 14:08

Their only real policy is a blind determination for separatism and nothing else.

Umm... Well... That's the point..... Why would you have a party that has independence for Scotland as its core goal that didn't push for it in elections?! Confused

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 27/11/2019 14:11

www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/home-news/boris-johnson-muslim-women-letterboxes-burqa-islamphobia-rise-a9088476.html islamophobia is a feminist issue as more women than men experience islamophobic hate crime.

Fwiw I winced when I saw mhairi black make those comments. But it isn't going to make me vote tory

Tarkus · 27/11/2019 14:19

Nothing would make me vote SNP. They don’t have the good of Scotland in mind- it’s just a blind, ill thought out , mindless demand with no rational thought behind it no matter what harm or damage it causes.

WomaninBoots · 27/11/2019 14:21

I'm not sold on an independent Scotland but will probably vote SNP... But would vote No in an Indyref2 at the moment. It's SNP or lib dems where I am and I'm not voting for the yellow Tories. SNP are at least socialist and seem to allow discussion and disent on the trans issue. If I was still down south I'd be holding my nose and voting Labour. Because it's hard to stand up for women's rights and freedoms when you're standing the queue for the foodbank or dying because you can't afford private medical care... I'm disabled and feel one or two steps away from destitution at all times under the Tory government and I find it frankly frightening to think where we might end up if they get in again. We need socialism now. The right and left are both misogynistic twunks on the whole, so while the Tories might seem more sympathetic on the trans issue I don't feel it's coming from a women-centred place...

That's just my current stream of consciousness!

SheeshElection · 27/11/2019 14:27

Well my choice is the local SNP candidate or the lovely Jo Swinson... take an educated guess who’ll I’ll be voting for??? Smile

NonnyMouse1337 · 27/11/2019 14:33

SNP are fairly centrist or at most slightly left of centre. Nowhere near socialism. It's just that things have lurched so much towards neoliberalism that any move away from it seems like a radical change.

WomaninBoots · 27/11/2019 14:41

I see your point NonnyMouse. I don't really know what I'm talking about. But a vote for Labour where I am would be pointless without PR. And lib dems are not an option for me. So I'll go for slightly left of centre for now!

Sexnotgender · 27/11/2019 14:45

Oh @SheeshElection that’s a hard choice 😂

CatInTheDaytime · 27/11/2019 14:46

Babdoc It won’t matter what their attitude to self ID is, when you’re living in a bankrupt banana republic

But that's what the UK is going to become too, or worse. I voted No in Indyref1 because I don't agree with nationalism for its own sake. But if there's a chance Scotland could remain in the EU by becoming independent, it starts to make more sense (or become the least bad option). (At least if Independent Scotland was a nightmare, if it was in the EU I could easily leave.)

So given it's all going to be a pile o' shite, I might as well vote on an issue I really care about - self-ID - and where I can see the tide might turn and we might get some results by using our votes and voices.

NonnyMouse1337 · 27/11/2019 14:53

Oh I absolutely agree WomaninBoots.
Until the UK implements a sensible PR system, we're not going to be able to have a decent variety of political stances during elections to choose from. For now, we have to decide what's the least worst option we can live with!

Amortentia · 27/11/2019 14:56

It won’t matter what their attitude to self ID is, when you’re living in a bankrupt banana republic which doesn’t even have its own currency and can’t afford to underwrite its own banks

Are you taking about an independent Scotland or the U.K. post Brexit? I suppose a constitutional monarch that’s gone pear shaped would be more appropriate for U.K. post Brexit.

MockersFactCheckMN · 27/11/2019 14:59

it might be a broke banana republic with no banks but we’ll have our freedom !

  • to be spoken in Lallans wearing kilt and wode makeup?
BlackForestCake · 27/11/2019 17:23

More of us seem to have higher priorities than self-ID after all.

If some people put preventing Scottish independence higher up, that's their prerogative.

Mine is that the NHS is more important than self-ID so I won't vote Conservative no matter who the candidate.

Galvantula · 27/11/2019 17:24

I should have come here first. I just scanned the whole thing.

I really don't want to vote for them as I'm strongly against independence. However, as I am in Gethins constituency...it's them or Lib Dems as Tories were 3rd with Labour miles behind. :(

AnyOldPrion · 27/11/2019 17:46

I will be voting SNP. I have many GC Twitter friends who are SNP. I think there is a problem with the leadership. That said, normally the SNP are sticklers for insisting their politicians stick to the party line on policies. So the fact that a few prominent female politicians have spoken out very clearly, but have not received any official reprimand is highly significant.

I get the impression that there has been a takeover attempt, particularly in the youth section. It has taken a while for the ordinary long-standing members to even notice it was happening and realise the significance. But I think there are a great many party members who are against self-ID, and I suspect if they can organise themselves (they haven’t had much reason to need to do so before) they have the numbers to win out eventually. I hope the recent election of a definitive TRA as women’s convenor might have been a wake-up call.
