The headline is encouraging - more young women than ever before are identifying as ‘feminist’.
EXCERPT:
A new poll revealing that 67 per cent of young women associate themselves with the word 'feminist' has brought fresh hope today. As we grapple with a world in which powerful men are all too often given a platform to excuse their actions, it is refreshing to know that a new generation of feminists is ready to take on the fight.
The study of more than 4,000 women by the Young Women’s Trust shows a dramatic increase in the number of women embracing the movement.
That is promising if true but surprises me because I thought younger women were less likely to consider themselves as feminists. In fact, I read a brilliant article some time ago (can’t remember the author or title though) that described how women tend to become feminists as they get older, get life experience, get married and have children. Basically, life events steer them to feminism. (And that is how I became a feminist).
Any thoughts about age and feminism? About young feminists?
