This is encouraging news for those of us have felt politically homeless.

The pushback's starting to happen and puuull

It's too late though, they've let too many women down already.

MuthaFunka61 · 17/11/2019 13:30

I'm of the opinion that it's never too late, although I agree the negligence and disregard towards safeguarding has been shocking,so no dispute there

I would like to see support for those who are sticking their neck out though.

I don't think it's ever too late either. But I do need to see MPs and senior party members speaking up too.

Akire · 17/11/2019 13:34

It is a good start and if all the changes are “really no harm” then surely no ones got anything to fear from an impact report have they?

Redshoeblueshoe · 17/11/2019 13:50

If my Labour MP wants my vote she needs to very publicly renounce her belief that TWAW, and that women should just try harder at sport.

So yes it's all lost for me.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 17/11/2019 14:47

It's a good start, but I won't feel comfortable supporting them until this gets some support from the kind of senior people who can actually make changes to party policy.

DuMondeB · 17/11/2019 14:49

Manifesto is out on Tuesday, I believe.

Breath is baited! I’m still hanging onto membership but mostly due to local issues and genuine friendships within the party. Nationally, it’s a shit show.

SeaWitchly · 17/11/2019 15:06

It's a good start OP :)

Uncompromisingwoman · 17/11/2019 15:14

If they want to retain my decades of votes, then they'd better make an open serious commitment to retaining sex based rights - or they can piss right off.

koshkat · 17/11/2019 16:10

Let me just re-post part of the reply I got from my local Labour candidate...

''As for trans-gender women using, for example women's toilets and changing rooms, I have to be honest and admit that I would be unlikely to support legislation limiting trans-gender women's access to these spaces. Some trans-gender women have no male genitalia, others only partial male genitalia and others are fully biologically male. I'm not sure how the degree to which a trans-gender person was still biologically male could be fairly assessed and I don't feel it would be fair to force a trans-gender person who had had gender reassignment to undress in a male changing room''

It would be funny if it was not so tragic.

lady69 · 17/11/2019 16:22

unelectable due to anti-semitism. I stand with my Jewish friends on that. That with their love of the woke with the likes of Owen Jones and Madigan as cheerleaders. Plus Corbyn himself is no ally yo women. It’s a no from me.

koshkat · 17/11/2019 16:22

Me too. In fact it is a massive fuck off from me.

Justhadathought · 17/11/2019 16:27

Yes, it is not just this issue of Gender Self Id, although that is the most decisive factor, I think, for me. It is also the issue of bullying in local constituency parties and the general culture that has been allowed to flourish unchecked; and even denied to exist.

Louise Ellman was my MP before she stood down, and I think she was treated in an appalling fashion by some in her own constituency.
Too many naive young Momentum candidates being put forward, and too many old militant, far left dinosaurs as well.

PaisleyPrintz · 17/11/2019 16:28

I want to read in their manifesto that they are and will be 'champions of sex based rights of females - women and girls'. And that TW are not women, but trans. And that they have different rights that DO NOT infringe on females.

I am also interested to see what they intend to do about the whole issue of DV.

That is the only way I will vote for them. At present I'm abstaining.

koshkat · 17/11/2019 16:31

I quite agree Just. The way that Momentum have overtaken the party is shameful.

Justhadathought · 17/11/2019 16:35

Plus Corbyn himself is no ally yo women. It’s a no from me

Have to say I hadn't before realised what an awful husband he was to his wives. Failure to consider their needs as mothers, women or partners; abandonment of responsibility in favour of his political vision; not even being present at the birth of his first child...

Mind you Boris Johnson is perhaps even worse as a husband, partner and father, but in different ways.

The personal is political, and you would surely hope that a good socialist and humanist would treat his wife with more consideration and respect.

Jeremy Corbyn is consistent, though. He's never changed, and is still banging the exact same drums he was thirty years ago.

WaningGibbous · 17/11/2019 16:37

I've been looking into our Labour PC and there's bollock all out there - just a welcome page on the town Labour sub-site. There's been nothing through the door, in the post or in the local press. Ok so it's a Con safe-ish seat but last time Labour were very much ahead of the Lib Dems, who have been at the door and are always shoving stuff at me. It's like Labour have picked someone random from the local party and aren't even trying to win.

MuthaFunka61 · 17/11/2019 17:02

Can't say I disagree with the majority of the comments (although I've missed the anti-semitic scandal so I'll take a look for clarity) and yes,the personal is political.

Personally I've not voted Labour since the 90's and the anti-war demo being ignored.
This time however there are also things like the 'austerity measures', zero hour contracts and the housing crisis to consider plus it seems to me that with the formation of the LGB Alliance and these activists within the Labour party stating their views the tide is turning and I really want to see things change, and that's never gonna happen if we don't vote for what that.

I've more confidence that things'll move in the general direction I believe in with Labour than any other party.

@lady69
The article I read by Glyn Secker, Jewish Voice for Labour secretary who states "those who define as anti-semitism support for the Palestinians’ fight against their oppression" which is where the disagreement and media/political propaganda lays I suspect.

I'm imagining you have a differing perspective which you'll want to retain.

Gone2far · 17/11/2019 18:47

but this is only initiated by Labour activists and stands no chance on getting anywhere while Dawn Butler is in post.

Babdoc · 17/11/2019 18:56

No use to me up here in Scotland. It’s a straight fight between the SNP and the Tories. I’m in a v tight marginal (21 majority!) so voting anything other than Tory risks giving the bloody SNP a mandate for yet another referendum to tear our country apart.

JoyceJeffries · 17/11/2019 18:59

It’s a no from me. They’ve taken the piss so far and they should apologise at how they’ve treated women.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 17/11/2019 19:10

Sorry, no. My MP has nailed their colours to the mast, and completely relies on this areas huge, wokier than woke, student population to hang on to their seat, so not likely to change their minds anytime soon.

Gone2far · 17/11/2019 19:23

sounds like my MP

MuthaFunka61 · 17/11/2019 22:55

I've got to say my constituency is similar and as a TRA supporter has just played a benefit gig, I'm not thrilled.

So, other than spoiling my ballet paper in a Tory held marginal seat which'll likely return another 5 years of more of the same, what're the options?

It's my belief that during times of change there's inevitably a period of conflict and what I see are the beginnings of a political pushback so surely this needs supporting. Unfortunately the timing of the forthcoming election is highly unlikely to bring the current situation regarding self ID to a conclusion that we'd like to see before we have to make a decision. Yet recent developments are making me feel more optimistic and as the current situation was led by activists we've an opportunity to lend our support,if not us then who?
