novembers issue.

There are couple of other letters too on the same subject.

I'm really surprised (and glad) they have printed this point of view. I nearly wrote in myself about the article in the October issue.

Certainly in my experience in an LD and Autism team as a social worker is that we are seeing more of it regarding young women with autism, and that generally the social workers (mainly women, some possibly mners) is to approach it with a watchful/waiting stance rather than fully affirming. No one is outwardly gender critical, because that would probably get you fired.

PSW printing this I think opens the door with managers who panic about the issue.

This is more readable and refers to it.

I know an SW who works with children and young people on CP. I’m not sure if he’s encountered this yet as it would be unprofessional for him to tell me but he is aware of it. He’s highly dubious about puberty blockers and questions the high rates of youngsters identifying as trans.I have been subtly raising the subject and directing him to reading material.

Enterthewolves · 12/11/2019 16:31

Well go Sarah & Maggie ans well done PSW for printing the letters

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 12/11/2019 20:11

This is really good.

We also need lawyers flagging this up in legal industry newspapers, because clinical negligence claims, and discrimination claims etc are going to be coming thick and fast over the coming years.

exwhyzed · 12/11/2019 20:20

I don't think it would have been published if a run of the mill social worker had written it, I'm pretty sure they only felt able to do so because @spero is a barrister and one increasingly well known.

It's the letter I wanted to write but didn't dare.

I also don't think it would have been published a year ago. Times are changing.

Yes I agree. Spero is incredible and so well-regarded in CP (also finally got the NSPCC to take notice of the rubber-suited toilet-wanker, didn't she?).

exwhyzed · 28/11/2019 22:53

Would love to see that screenshot DailyApple

I suspect it won't be the 'gotcha' you are trying to make out it is.

So prove me wrong.

Glad to also see the letter below printed.
I’m a social worker and completely agree with the points both letters make.

DailyApple Grin Confused

That link really doesn't say what you seem to think it does.

Someone must be really scraping the barrel to try and dig that up as some kind of wrong doing.

Why?

daily that's possibly the crappest "gotcha" I've ever seen. Grin
1/10 must try harder

Well done Spero for that letter. Pulllllllllllllllllllllll

HandsOffMyRights · 29/11/2019 07:37

Well done to Sarah for persuing this, along with the other professionals who are drawing attention to this.

Daily clutching at straws. You must be really worried about the sunlight on this. Sarah, however, believes in protecting vulnerable children and families.

HandsOffMyRights · 29/11/2019 07:40

Pursue even. Need more coffee!

AnyFucker · 29/11/2019 07:43

Daily you don't understand irony, do you ?

ElluesPichulobu · 29/11/2019 07:46

@DailyApple you just did the equivalent of calling a black man 'racist' because he used the word nigga in conversation with another black man. not a good look.

Cuntysnark · 29/11/2019 07:47

Well done Sarah from me too.

teawamutu · 29/11/2019 07:58

I've just read a thoughtful exchange on the lack of care for disabled adults.

I don't have enough personal knowledge of adult disability, or Spero, to say if context offers any different perspectives - but from everything I've seen from her, it'll be coming from a principled and compassionate place.

midcenturylegs · 29/11/2019 08:10

Sigh. Here's the context;

That is an excellent and succinct letter, so glad to see it published.

Times are changing.

ElluesPichulobu · 01/12/2019 05:41

I'm not defending her. no defense is necessary. I am explaining to you that you are making yourself look a bit silly. the screenshots clearly and obviously (to anyone with any sense) show two adults who are living with disabilities discussing as equals (and in a sympathetic and friendly manner) the experience of being an adult with a disability in a society that perceives people with disabilities negatively. that you are trying to use this exchange to attack Spero really makes you look very foolish, so I am merely advising you to stop for your own sake.
