I've worked with Peter Loraine a few times and I'm always impressed he isn't tempted to mention that he came up with the names in every conversation. I'd be straight in there - "Nice to meet you I'm avocado and I created the Spice Girls' nicknames".

I was a MASSIVE fan and recently looked at some pics of them and realised part of the reason I loved them so much is that they could genuinely have been your best mate's big sister.

They were all gorgeous of course but in a normal and relatable and realistic way!

I like Little Mix and think they seem like lovely girls but their look is almost impossible for the majority of their fan base to replicate (or as kids probably see it - live up to) as it requires such high maintenance and often help from fillers etc.

I feel lucky that for me, my role models were girls who looked like they were having a right fucking laugh and didn't really give a shit what people thought about them but still seemed like nice girls who would be easy to chat to.

I always liked this clip of them having a go at a video director who wanted them to "sex up" their outfits in a video.

Shit I never even thought about the label Scary being a reflection of that media stereotype, looking back there probably is something in that.

Feel a bit embarrassed I never made the connection, I guess because when I fell in love with them I was so young (under 10) and I had no understanding of that stereotype and then haven't reflected back on the names with adult eyes since then.

Interesting points of view on here - always learning Thanks

I was too old for the whole Spice Girls thing and never paid them much mind.

I guess I was 'old gender' in the 90s.

(I was in my late teens/early 20s)
