Recommendations for transgender issues training companies for schools.

Have name changed in case anyone from my son's school recognises this.

DS is at a boys secondary.
They are starting to look at a curriculum for transgender issues and have been separately thinking about addressing possible sexism.
On transgender, I believe they have been talking to Allsorts and someone else has recommended Stonewall to them. Obviously I'm not impressed.

Could someone wiser than me recommend a good training company for the school. It's early days for the school and the pastoral leader is new so I think there is an opportunity to influence the direction of this project if I can get in there quickly i.e. before they hook up with Stonewall.

I'm aware of Transgender Trend materials but I don't think they offer training to teachers.

Thank you all.

And any advice on how to persuade the teacher that Allsorts and Stonewall are not the answer would be appreciated.

Hi OP. Safe Schools Alliance and Transgender Trend are good places to look.

Good luck and thank you for doing this Thanks

I saw on another thread today that Acas are good, might be worth exploring?

BarbaraStrozzi · 08/11/2019 15:59

teawamutu it was me that mentioned ACAS, but I think their remit is the workplace, not education.

Simon Fanshawe (co founder of Stonewall who is speaking out against the madness) runs a diversity training company. Should find it through google or I think it’s on his Twitter handle?

BarbaraStrozzi · 08/11/2019 16:21

Now that's well worth knowing for future reference. The TRAs have done a number on Fair Play/ Transgender Trend such that a lot of people in education will have a knee-jerk response (erroneous) of "but they're transphobic, pro clause 28 type organisations". Fanshawe, on the other hand, they can't possibly object to.

Yes agree thatcher definitely worth remembering. Thanks Lumene

Has anyone heard of Metro City? They’re coming in to the school I work at soon and can’t get a feel for their slant on things from their website...

I'm going to see if I can talk to the school tomorrow. I don't think I have the solution yet though to offer the teacher. I don't think Transgender Trend or the Safer Schools Alliance offer training and UCAS is more about the legalities within a work setting,
I think Simon Fanshawe might be the best direction so far - his company has worked with universities.
I so don't want to be the mum perceived to be causing trouble but looks like it will have to be me!

Good luck, OP. All I can suggest is that you highlight some of the statements from Allsorts et al. 'Assigned sex at birth', 'biological sex is on a spectrum' and so on and ask what the Science Dept would think of them(!)

They have to have a curriculum and the only alternative I can think of is to emphasise more general things from TT. e.g. bullying is completely unacceptable, of course and so on.

Sorry, that's rather vague.

all these diversity training companies are a scam, use some bloody common sense.

Chocalatecappuccino · 11/11/2019 08:35

TransgenderTrend does offer training to teachers. I think it costs about £300 so perhaps not cheap but it's very comprehensive.

You can also try sending them the SSA fact sheets.
