Twitter suspension for disagreeing with Tatchell

I know lots of others have experienced this, so I shouldn’t feel shocked but I really do!

Tatchell posted some stuff about all organisations needing to base campaigns on love and inclusion, not hate and anger. I tweeted a few things in reply, one basically linking to a news report re increased sexual assaults on women and asking how women were meant to remedy that situation with love for those responsible. I pointed out specifically that most men and trans women were decent people but that HO stats showed most sexual assaults are committed by males. That is apparently a hateful tweet!

What’s more, the “appeal” process is rubbish as I was given very limited word count to write anything.

Feeling deflated. Just wanted a rant.

Feel better? 😉

My husband usually has to listen to my rants about this and it's had a profound effect on him, actually.
On Facebook and IRL he'll happily get into the debate; he genuinely knows his stuff.

He did ask me recently, where i was getting all my information from, regarding stats, etc and i gave him the 'Break it Down for Me' thread to read.

It was the Tamika Brents MMA bout that well and truly made his head explode; and that's his starting point with the debate.
I never knew he had it in him!

But regarding Tatchell, why does anyone take him seriously after the vile letter he had published?

lionheart · 07/11/2019 09:13

That's absurd. Rant away.

BadgertheBodger · 07/11/2019 09:16

Ah yes. Tatchell the child-rape apologist. Well done Twitter, well done.

NellieEllie · 07/11/2019 09:17

Ameanstreak, I know that no one should take Tatchell seriously, but I replied because I thought lots of people read his tweets and it’s important to challenge the nonsense. My DH does listen to rants, and does agree, but he doesn’t get cross about it, and takes no interest really in finding out about anything.
I’ve seen so much really horrid stuff on twitter, I can’t believe that what I’ve said can be construed as “hateful”.

Me neither Nellie.

NellieEllie · 07/11/2019 09:20

It does seem to me that getting suspended is maybe dependent on who reports you? I don’t know, but I’m sure Ive posted far more controversial stuff on Twitter.
I always thought you had to be quite high profile for anyone to bother. Which I am not.
Maybe M&S will report me too.

That's why people don't want you doing it.

Driechdrizzle · 07/11/2019 09:40

It's the dicks doing the reporting that I keep thinking about.

Everybody argues on the internet, especially on public open forums like Twitter. If you don't like what someone is saying, block them. Taking away their right to post is chucking them out of the public sphere. It's much worse that posting opinions you don't like.

Like all the people who want to sever women from Mumsnet of course.

MissLawls · 07/11/2019 09:45

I feel your pain @NellieEllie I was banned earlier this year after a sustained mass reporting attack by Corbynistas. (I know this is what happened because they boasted about getting me off the platform!)

Being banned from Twitter may seem a minor thing but it isn't if you use or need it a lot. It's the modern day equivalent of banishment and it's horrible and very isolating.

I managed to get my account back as the tweet they banned me for was clearly a joke. Do appeal and if that fails get on to the Better Business Bureau in San Francisco. That's got quite a few people back.

Good luck and Flowers

NellieEllie · 07/11/2019 10:22

Thank you @MissLawls !

Very welcome. Good luck x

I am reluctant to say anything contentious in arguments with blue ticks with lots of followers these days. Truly shit as it means they are likely to go unchallenged, but that’s Twitter for you.

I also reckon arguing too clearly is risky.

Second the BBB though. Got mine back that way
