Womanface as a term.

I am watching a thread on twitter where a woman is saying that the term womanface is deeply offensive as it is a comparison to blackface.

Another woman is saying that women are raped and murdered and denied opportunities in society and are generally oppressed. So when we see people in drag it is reminiscent of blackface because one class in power is dominating another.

I'm trying to keep up but I'm a bit lost. What do you guys think?

I think there's already a good thread on it. For my 2p worth, I don't think it's "womanface" - I think of it as "femininityface". You can obviously be a woman without doing anything different from a man, whereas drag etc is grotesquely exaggerated superficial femininity.

A year ago I thought ‘womanface’ was okay but I no longer think it is. But yes OP read the other thread and maybe continue the discussion there Smile

Don’t like it, don’t use it, it doesn’t feel accurate or resonate with me. The fact that black feminists are strongly objecting to the hijacking of the term is a very good reason not to use it. We can find other words. Feminism has never made its main case with comparisons to other oppressions men inflict on people, we don’t need to do it for this either.
