I'm looking to find a place for the money I would have spent on Flora/in M&S. People on here are far more knowledgeable about these things than I am, so I'm seeing advice. Are The Freedom Programme and A Woman's Place good choices? Thanks

May I suggest, if you have a spare spade, that you look at the large hole needing to be dug on behalf of Sue Evans? She’s bringing a legal challenge against GIDS re their use of experimental treatment on children. Hugely important!

In terms of regular donations I’d look very, very close to home and see whether or not your local refuge needs some help. There are often tiny grassroots charities supporting women if you look closely. Hope you find something Smile

The Eve Appeal focuses on 5 gynaecological cancers. They have no problem in talking about women and women's bodies. They get my support:

Beyond fgm this UK charity partners with a community led grass roots group in Kenya to end fgm and empower girls and women. PM me if you want more info.

@Throckmorton Thanks for supporting the campaign to ask M&S to reconsider their policy. I raise money for @nia here if you'd consider them?

Freedom Programme are brilliant and I'm always pleased to work for them when I do but Pat finds this from her brilliant book Living With The Dominator and the online courses. She's a gorgeous dynamo but not a charity as such.

Nia will not let men in their refuges. www.justgiving.com/JeanHatchetRideForMurderedWomen

Remember the basics.

Wateraid - lack of clean water and basic sanitation leads to girls not receiving an education (they are the water carriers), and women having more babies than they might otherwise want (in the hope that at least one will survive to adulthood)

Womankind is one of my charities. They don’t seem to have any problem defining “woman”.

You brilliant lot - I knew I could rely on this board for great ideas!!

This charity provides a unique peer-led service around self-harm and trauma for women: www.selfinjurysupport.org.uk/

Thanks for the reminder about Eve charity. Have just volunteered to participate in theri research project as well.
"The FORECEE Study is a unique research programme at UCL, investigating molecular (genetic and epigenetic) and bacterial/viral factors that may predict a woman’s risk of developing breast, ovarian, womb and cervical cancer (the 4Cs)."

I have a monthly donation to Justice for Women (Julie Bindel / Harriet Wistrich)
www.justiceforwomen.org.uk/
They help women who killed their abusive partners and were recently in the news when they got Sally Challed freed.

Hi - I've suggested this on other threads similar to this.

Try and find a local group to support. For instance many women's refuges may get funding for the basics but nothing say for children who are living in refuges.

Particularly at this time of year refuges and other local women's projects will be trying to raise money for Christmas, because even if some of us might think it a bit commercialised, children will feel left out.

Not sure, but I thought the Freedom Programme offered training which has to be paid for.

Nia also gets (compared to other women's projects) a number of different strands of funding for instances one of the refuges that actually got (and it is never clear why this happened) money to run a rape crisis line, rather than it going to a rape crisis group.

Just trying to say worth thinking about those who dont have a high profile. They are nearly always doing good work for on a small local scale.
