Hi all
Apologies for one of those threads...

A while ago, someone mentioned a documentary that apparently explains a lot of how we got here, like in the 1984 and meaningless words sense....alas, I didn’t make a note of the name. I think it was about 90 mins or 2 hours and not from a main channel, maybe Netflix?

On the wild off chance that anyone knows, thanks in advance!

Adam Curtis made some interesting documentaries on this subject, possibly the most interesting being this one

You Have Used Me as a Fish Long Enough

It is part 2 of the 3 part Living Dead series, all of which are interesting and available to view free on youtube

Part 1, On the Desperate Edge of Now, is here

Part 3, The Attic, is here

Not sure if this is exactly what you want but I hope it helps :)

@hoodathunkit you’re a gem

It was Hypernormalisation, also by him apparently. I was put off by the running time but then thought I might find it helpful.

Always a pleasure to help is I can

I was thinking about this and I wonder whether the most relevant Adam Curtis film is the Century of the Self, which can be watched here

Please be advised that Curtis makes extensive use of public domain and archival footage including war footage in all of his films.

Some of the footage is extremely disturbing (e.g. footage of the emaciated corpses of murdered people in concentration camps)

I think the Century of the Self focuses on the creation of the concept of the self as an entity that can be manipulated for all kinds of reasons by political movements and by corporations. It is highly relevant to the trans issue for this reason. It explores issues aroud the "manipultion of consent" (brainwashing) and is also highly relevant to Brexit

I really should learn to proof read lol

anyway, hope the above is helpful :)

If you are ever looking for a documentary take a look on topdocumentaryfilms.com.
They have a great selection with synopsis and reviews as well.

I'm sure I saw a link to the documentary you are thinking of on the 'Break it down for me' thread.

Thank you everyone for all these

I’m working my way through but I have to be honest, I’m not finding it that helpful in terms of analysis of the rapid onset of madness in the last few years.

I’m also really interested in the kind of mass hysteria we have on everything and the complete lack of interest in privacy. And how people want to plaster their emotions everywhere. Apologies if this seems crazy but I feel there’s a link between “let it all show” and the madness we are in now.

So if anyone knows of stuff more focussed on the last few years I’d love to hear about it. Thank you.

I haven't seen any up to date documentaries, but it's pretty obvious that the "you can be anything you want to be behind a screen" nature of the internet has directly fed into the identity cult.

AutumnRose1 · 04/11/2019 11:49

This is going off piste for feminism but it really bugs me that people actually want to give up privacy, to the point that your employer can literally ask you to wear your politics on a badge.
