The fantastic gnc_centric is tweeting live from the talk.

I'm off to bed, cos UK and all, but couldn't see a thread about this.

It's Canada, which means 100% more attacks on Meghan's talk than we get in the UK.

Let's give her a bit of solidarity if you can.

For a group that claims to care about feelings, they seem to be dismissing the feelings of women and girls very easily.

The baying mob was unbelievable. They obviously have so much hate for women. The only thing I can think of similar is the mobs that wait outside courts at high profile trials when the hated defendant is being taken to prison.

Meghan Murphy is incredibly brave as are all the women who attended and ran the gauntlet of that crowd. Andrea Dworkin had to have bodyguards when she spoke, it seems like Murphy is being forced into the same situation.

This is taken from a question in an interview with the Toronto city librarian to which lionheart kindly linked.

You mentioned that the library is a place where groups seeking equity can be heard. Except in this case, the person speaking is not a member of one of those groups, she’s speaking about things that in fact, are hugely offensive to members of one of those groups.

Because women have never sought equity, never been disadvantaged, oppressed or discriminated against because of our sex. Obviously.

Did anyone see Mark Emery’s feed of the protest? He was incredibly calm in the face of people shrieking at him, trying to grab his camera/phone, shoving flags and placards in front of him and repeatedly telling him to kill himself when he’d quietly state that men are not women and that Megan’s right to free speech should not be hindered.

I live in Canada and know a lot of intelligent, compassionate teenagers. They are all unquestionably in favour of biological males in women’s spaces because they believe to say otherwise is to be a nasty bigot. One kind and clever kid I know retweeted Sam Smith’s tweet calling the LGB Alliance “a hate group”. I just don’t know how to engage on this topic with these kids as they’ve been indoctrinated that to question causes real-world violence to occur and if they are good people they must resist that fiercely. Meanwhile their friends are being fed hormones and going down a road they won’t be able to fully physically pull back from. It’s so distressing to observe.
