Pharrel Williams has (finally) renounced Blurred Lines as sexist.

Hate this song so much. There can’t be a woman anywhere who doesn’t cringe when they hear this song played. I’ve heard it at kids discos even - I guess because it was on the Now CDs.

OP posts:

Has he renounced all the money he made from it?

hipsterfun · 20/10/2019 13:32

The video is grim AF.

MockersthefeMANist · 20/10/2019 13:35

Aaaaaaah, but the response:

MissLadyM · 20/10/2019 13:38

It's fucking vile. They were even sued in court for ripping off Marvin Gaye! I bet the prick's enjoying the cash though!

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/10/2019 13:42

Bizarrely heard this song today as ds wanted happy on and it came on afterwards on Spotify. Had no idea it was his but was surprised at how sexist it is.

Damn right, it's appalling.

Also, a random Garfield cartoon movie we started watching last night was horribly sexist. Ds actually asked for it to be turned off!

HorseWithNoFucksToGive · 20/10/2019 13:48

He should put the money where his stupid fucking mouth is.

Donate the profits to rape charities.

SimonJT · 20/10/2019 13:52

Ah, I assume he wants to make more money so is attempting to ‘clear’ his name, it wasn’t his first innapropriate song and I doubt it will be last.

However, the radio one spoof version called mince pies is quite good.

Milanimilani · 20/10/2019 14:02

Imagine someone has not heard this song and now doesn’t want to. What happens?

HorseWithNoFucksToGive · 20/10/2019 15:44

Eh?

CardiFree · 20/10/2019 15:49

I remember dancing in a bar to this when it first came out and the lyrics not hitting home with me till the next day when I felt a bit sick, for all the reasons.

53rdWay · 20/10/2019 15:58

I like the Goodness Gracious Me version.

NeurotrashWarrior · 20/10/2019 18:55

That is good! Tad terfy too....

AnyFucker · 20/10/2019 18:59

Too little too late Pharrell, you misogynist prick

Your career suffering is it ? Cry me a fucking river.

boatyardblues · 20/10/2019 19:19

The Goodness Gracious Me version is brilliant!

TemporaryPermanent · 20/10/2019 21:27

Presumably fancies an income bump from people rushing to YouTube.

I always liked the Mod Carousel parody. No less objectifying but at least less threatening.
Here

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 20/10/2019 21:43

Oh thank you so so much for the Goodness Gracious Me version. GrinFlowers

AnyFucker · 20/10/2019 22:22

I love that

FrothyDragon · 20/10/2019 23:00

What, he magically realises that once he isn't making money from it? Couldn't work it out when he looked back over the lyrics? Because the rest of us sure as hell did.

OneEndedStick · 21/10/2019 00:04

Well yes, one does rather wonder why he didn't work this out even as he was writing the final draft, or when he heard ole Thicke-wit singing them, or...you know, when there were thousands of women actually telling him, and numerous journos saying the same thing.

RadicalFern · 21/10/2019 06:02

And it's taken him 5 years to realise? Sounds like too little too late to me, and words are cheap.

I really like the Weird Al parody. It's about grammar Blush

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 21/10/2019 06:58

Bit late now to be sorry, mate. Donate the profits to a rape crisis center and then maybe someone will care.

FamilyOfAliens · 21/10/2019 07:06

He even said at the time that his wife was ok with it.

So no, mate, we don’t believe you’ve had a change of heart.

CoolCarrie · 21/10/2019 12:57

It’s like Under My Thumb by Rolling Stones, great tune, bloody shocking lyrics. Goodness Gracious me version is great.
Pharrel it’s too little , too late you knob!

powershowerforanhour · 21/10/2019 13:08

Love the Goodness Gracious Me one, hadn't seen it before Grin

UnbowedUnbentUnbroken · 21/10/2019 20:13

I think bart Baker summed a lot of that song and its creators well.
