New Europol campaign reveals 'most wanted' women fugitives www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-50098550

The horribly named Crime Has No Gender website reported by the BBC has female fugitives on it. The Europol spokeswoman coming out with a load of old nonsense to the BBC.

Well Claire Georges is apparently not the sharpest tool in the shed - '"We wanted to show that women are just as likely to commit violent crimes as men." - except that this is simply false.

Cynical grab for a headline by Interpol. If this were a story about an ethnic minority it would rightly be condemned as racist and liable to incite hate crimes but somehow when it’s women it’s all fun and games and a fair way to generate some attention. Never ceases to amaze me how misogyny is so commonplace and widely tolerated while even the smallest hint of racism or - heaven forfend - transphobia is liable to get you ‘canceled’. Male privilege always trumps facts.

Are you referencing the case in Ireland? If so I'm planning to protest about it and would like some help.

(Last post still stands, I'm grappling with a phone with a smashed screen at the moment but seeing it through to the end) ..

From the BBC report quoted in the OP (and thanks for bringing it to attention!) www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-50098550

"Europol said it wanted to highlight that women were just as capable as men of carrying out serious crimes.

And:

"Although women are perpetrators of serious crimes, statistics show the majority globally are committed by men."

So: the majority globally of serious crimes are actually committed by men; and yet fucking Europol wishes to draw our attention to the fact that women could potentially be "just as capable as men of carrying out serious crimes."

Based on no fucking evidence whatsoever.

In actual fact, they have just said that "statistics show the majority globally are committed by men."

So what the fuck is that supposed to be about, or prove?!

Oh, FFS.

Just read this article with utter incredulity. Glad the UK send a man’s name and glad the bbc found a sensible commentator to counter Europol’s ridiculous statement.

Could it be that some of the biggest/worst gangs involve women and so this is a way of bringing down the whole gang {hopeful} ??

Another poster mentioned some of the crimes though, I haven’t read the actual list, but it sounds like they are relatively minor.

If they have an overall most wanted list, I’m willing to bet there are no women anywhere near the top of that list.

Another poster mentioned some of the crimes though, I haven’t read the actual list, but it sounds like they are relatively minor.

I took a quick look at the red list link upthread. Over half of the wanted women are Russian, and it looks like there's a strong political/ethnic/religious factors at play there rather than 'normal' criminals. Maybe they're dangerous terrorists but possibly lower level involvement as dissidents, separatists or whatever. (I wouldn't let an AI loose on those photos.)

andyoldlabour · 19/10/2019 12:26

In the UK, women only account for 5% of the entire prison population. The next stat is very telling - 82% of women prisoners are in for non violent offences.

MockersthefeMANist · 19/10/2019 12:43

"Crime Has No Gender"

No.

But it has a sex, and around 90% of the time, it's male.

GCSE bleedin Sociology.

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 19/10/2019 15:26

'Since having young children reduces a woman’s propensity to commit crimes, subsidies for having children might reduce female criminality.' (Key finding)

JEsus Christ - chaining us to the sink would be more humane than socially engineering to encourage us to have more kids!

TreestumpsAndTrampolines · 19/10/2019 15:30

In fraud for example we know a lot of types of violent scams are perpetuated and often faciliated by women

Violent scams? I'm not saying I don't believe you, but can I have an example? Because everything I can think of that's violent is a crime other than fraud, so I'm trying to understand what a 'violent scam' which is just fraud, and not (say) kidnapping actually is.

LisaSimpsonsbff · 19/10/2019 17:37

oncewasblue I wasn't referring to an Irish case and I'm not sure of the case you mean - but can you share some more information? If it touches on issue of women being implicated in male-driven crime (which I guess it does if you thought my post refers to it?) then I think a lot of people on this thread and board would be interested, and there might be people who could help you organise on it (are you looking for people in Ireland?)

ErrolTheDragon · 19/10/2019 18:09

subsidies for having children might reduce female criminality.

And meanwhile on another thread, aren't women deemed responsible for tackling overpopulation?Hmm what a twerp.

WineGummyBear · 19/10/2019 18:19

*"Crime Has No Gender"

No.

But it has a sex, and around 90% of the time, it's male.*

I don't understand. Both sexes have well documented patterns of criminality and someone at Europol wanted to spend lots of money building a website debunking not a myth but the public's grasp of an actual fact.

Obviously it serves certain agendas to have this issue clouded and confused.

Thank goodness for Dr Duggan. Brava that woman.

ErrolTheDragon · 19/10/2019 21:07

I dare say the thinking behind it was that because the vast majority of serious crime is committed by men, people may be a bit too automatically trusting of women. But heck, surely by now everyone has seen The Bodyguard and Killing Eve.

Oncewasblueandyellowtwo · 19/10/2019 21:19

Apologies.LisaSimpsonsbff was working today and just catching up.
Yes it's a case in Ireland about a woman who held drugs for a gang and is being sent to prison for 3 years. It was a lot of cocain and heroin, however I feel she has been punished too much. See article attached.

The media takes care of that nicely!
