I’ve been thinking further about the certainty that those on the study wouldn’t be in the 80%. Do GIDS have empirical evidence that this is the case? Do they hold any evidence that proves their assertions? How did they select the children for the study - did they use suicidal ideation or self harm as a marker of seriousness? It concerns me to think, especially with the dodgy suicide statistics and the language used by Mermaids - better to have a living son than a dead daughter, that suicide threats or attempts can be used to get blockers.
As for the HRA did they just take GIDS word for the cohort not being in the 80%?
What of the now commonplace use of blockers in GIDS for those not on the study - do they simply apply the thinking of those that shout loudly enough for blockers can have them?
