This is a brilliantly incisive response to a question I think we’ve all asked, “how did a condition which affected a small group of traumatised individuals become a dominant, authoritarian social movement?”

It really is worth listening to - it’s only ten minutes long.

That was great!

I'm off to look for her work for later reading. Thanks for sharing!

Renee is amazing!

Kiwiwiwiwi · 17/10/2019 03:39

Love her. Another kiwi voice. She left Twitter after the usual abysmal woke backlash. Renee is paying the price for speaking out. Flowers

In other words A New World Order which I've been saying since 2010, but usually get the piss taken.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 18/10/2019 14:07

Fascinating.

Annasgirl · 18/10/2019 14:13

This is so weird - I was thinking just about this yesterday and was going to pose a question on here to-day asking how did it happen.

DanaPhoenix · 18/10/2019 14:55

Excellent presentation.

By God that Voltaire quote resonated.

InionEile · 19/10/2019 04:01

‘Womanhood becomes a commodity to which men are entitled’

That sums it up for me. Perfectly put. Womanhood has just become another thing that corporations can package and sell to people who want to express their ‘individuality’. And they’re so stunning!! and brave!! when they do.., Hmm

zanahoria · 19/10/2019 07:13

Tis a neat turn of phrase

LangCleg · 19/10/2019 09:02

Excellent.

The more I think on this the more it makes sense.
Neolilberalim has led to a lack of cohesion in society since it basically boils down to, 'what's it worth, and what's in it for me?'
So any ideology which allows some people to get more out than they otherwise could, or to compete more successfully than they otherwise would, will give them a greater sense of self-worth within a global society that has embraced Neolilberalism. I'm alright Jack, dog eat dog, but if I'm a small fish in a big pond I need a new pond.
A whole swathe of people who don't feel they belong to anything and need something to belong to. But at the same time have a need to destroy it, or mold it to their own requirements, because otherwise they would just be back in another big pond. People who all feel the need to have their voice heard, but don't know how to listen.
And isn't that just what those who hold the real reins of power want? Minions at war with one another, lusting for more and more stuff to buy to fill the hole left by actual connections?
Of course there's a lot more to it, in terms of the affect of gender steroetypes etc, though much of that is fuelled by comercial interests too. But the more I look at it through the lens of money, the more I see why there is zero will to actually give a fig about women and children. Unless we can demonstrate that doing so makes someone a lot of money it isn't happening. And while some women may boycott certain products, I see far more people out there, women included, spending more and more money on anything and everything to fit in, feel better, or just try to be safe (check out the growing sales of personal alarms for example).

AnotherLass · 21/10/2019 21:46

That was excellent.

I've spent a lot of time thinking about the relationship between neoliberalism and gender ideology so I almost didn't bother listening because I thought she'd say things I've already thought about.

But she came at it from a quite different angle. I hadn't thought of the disaster capitalism aspect before.

zebrasdontwearbras · 21/10/2019 22:49

She's incredible. Brilliant woman.

I have just recently listened Naomi Klein's disaster capitalism stuff with regard to brexit - and it makes seriously depressing listening.

The destruction of regulations, workers rights, welfare state, civil rights. It's all happening.

Prostitution flourishing under these conditions. Left wing women being called Terfs and Swerfs. The mantra sex work is work, and all that other claptrap that means women are sexually exploited - bought and sold like products.

Trans ideology - actual womanhood being bought and sold as a product for men.

Neoliberalism and disaster capitalism - I just look around at what's happening with the likes of Trump and Dom Cummings - and think yes.

Boy, are the likes of Owen Jones going to feel stupid for supporting this.

MoltenLasagne · 22/10/2019 08:03

Very succinct. I remember being shocked at the conditions imposed by the IMF when first learning about it decades ago, seeing the links to transgender ideology is very enlightening.
