Did anyone watch This Morning today? Very interesting kick back by an ex employee of Traverstock on making great points, abou the quickness of treatment etc.

It was a very clear measured and balanced discussion - the ex member of staff from the Tavistock - was very clear balanced and rational - she talked about the impact of making young people infertile - the complications of fertility even when treatment occurs post puberty - the huge increase in numbers accessing the Tavistock - she said puberty blockers may be on occasion be the correct way to deal with some young people - but there needed to be a proper debate - and her big worries were the lack of time and consultations before puberty blockers were decided on - Phil and Holly were very fair and supportive - and introduced the article by raising the case of the parents suing the Tavistock for giving Burberry blockers to their 15 year old daughter - A balanced fair segment and a change in how this Morning covers these topics

Pullllllllllllllllllll

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/10/2019 14:48

Remember how they set up Posie Parker in the "debate" with India Willoughby? That was what, a year ago or less?

I think we can say that the tide is officially beginning to turn. Institutions move slowly but surely there's a limit to how long they can hold out against public opinion.

Qcng · 14/10/2019 14:48

Balanced?
On mainstream media!
Shock

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/10/2019 14:56

Fabulous

GustavaoFring · 14/10/2019 14:58

I’m trying to watch on itv hub but it cuts straight to loose women instead and I wonder if this episode has been pulled?

BeMoreMagdalen · 14/10/2019 15:03

Well there's the rub. Mention women's boundaries and feminism, no one cares.

Medical sterilization and experimental surgery on kids? That's really much harder to cheerlead for and look like a good guy.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/10/2019 15:05

I've believed since the beginning that it will be the unethical medical practices aimed at children that brings the whole thing down. It's always been a matter of when the public would realize what's being done to children and how many children are involved.

AbsintheFriends · 14/10/2019 15:18

Agree it's an amazingly balanced piece, but am agog at the U turn Phil'n'Holly appear to have done.

I clearly recall the times Phil has self-identified as a sneering Paxman-esque journalist whilst savaging a trans-questioning guest. As if questioning anything was complete anathema to any civilised, intelligent person and their viewers would unanimously share that view and be cheering on brave hero-of-the-underdog Phil from their sofas.

Wonder if Phil will be making an insurance claim for whiplash injury?

BeMoreMagdalen · 14/10/2019 15:19

It's where you see the cult at it's worst, really, and where the manipulations and distortions are most obvious. With much of everything else, there are so many opportunities to get sidetracked into nonsense about 'what is a woman?' and play on the cultural disdain for women getting too loud.

The coercion and grooming of kids, and the documented harms of what is being physically done to them is like a ruddy great splatted tomato on a white background. You can't miss it.

BoreOfWhabylon · 14/10/2019 15:24

The tide has turned all right Smile

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 14/10/2019 15:25

I remember when I found out that a drug that was subject to a class action lawsuit from patients harmed by it was being given to children. Stopped me dead in my tracks.

Apparently we learned nothing from the Thalidomide scandal.

Qcng · 14/10/2019 16:08

Lupron is actually causing children to die*. It's there in black and white.

*A small number but even one is too many.

The TRA/AWA say "they'll all kill themselves without puberty blockers anyway".... Wtf, world.

LangCleg · 14/10/2019 16:29

This.

ITV have put the relevant clip online, it can be found here:

PeterRouseTheFleshofMankind · 14/10/2019 17:53

Oh wow, on This Morning? Like others have said - puuuuulllllllll!

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 14/10/2019 18:48

Wow! We wouldn't have seen that two years ago. Excellent interview. She was very calm, clear and measured.

BeMoreMagdalen · 14/10/2019 18:52

Blimey, that's a very different tone to previous coverage on This Morning. I think I also detected the first stirrings of realization dawning from Holly as she asked the questions that were clearly bothering her from what she had been briefed on. I wonder if she will be googling later?

ChattyLion · 14/10/2019 19:11

Thanks for the thread and the link. That is well worth a watch. Calm, balanced discussion. Open about the political pressures on doctors (which is why I think we need regulation/legal change)
Also noticed in the Tavistock and Portman Trust statement read out at the end of this piece that the NHS will be reviewing the available evidence in the area to inform a new service specification for the NHS.
Anyone know what that means? Isn’t there a huge lack of evidence available about this stuff? Isn’t there some very worrying recent early findings about an actual increase in mental health symptoms after girls were started on treatment?
The NHS are going to have to decide if they want to be evidence-based around this or politically-led. I feel like the tide is slowly turning. Holly and Phil did a good job with that one and well done to Sue Evans the therapist who was being interviewed, she was really calm and clear talking on such a complex and nuanced subject. This topic can get unhelpfully emotive very quickly, in media soundbite form and she did well to avoid that.

Iminthewrongstory · 14/10/2019 19:11

Thanks for that link WhereYouLeftIt. It was a calm, rational discussion.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 14/10/2019 19:23

Wow. Well done, that woman.

It's like chinks of light shining through a brick wall. Perhaps people at last are starting to realise this for what it is. Giving children dangerous, unnecessary medecine based on ideology that makes no logical sense.

CoolCarrie · 14/10/2019 19:28

I thought Sue Green was excellent, she covered everything, and I agree that Holly, and Phil especially, have done a huge u turn on their tone, that is what caught my ears in the first place. Hopefully they have looked more closely at the information available, maybe Phil’s daughters have had a word with him.

NeurotrashWarrior · 14/10/2019 19:41

What annoys me is that they ask innocently why there's been a rise and then say how many parents they've had sitting on their sofa talking about it,

People watch these things and begin to think their children are the same when they're perhaps just GNC. It's no wonder there's 1000s of referrals now

And we can't ignore the fact that a few parents will also enjoy the attention. Not all, and I'm absolutely sure for many it's a horrifically challenging situation. But I've seen parents do the same for other situations I'm afraid, and the level of glamour around the trans pride stuff is ridiculous.

BeMoreMagdalen · 14/10/2019 20:06

Well, what is going to happen is the people who have been useful idiots in pushing this rubbish forward will be confronted by the reality of what they have supported. That was always going to be an horrifically embarrassing experience.

Some will double down to avoid it, a la Suzie Green. Some will be humbled and do a shame faced turn around. And most of the people who are like Holly and Phil, Phil especially, will adopt concerned expressions and claim that because they had no idea (because they didn't look beyond the shimmering surface) they are now in the vanguard of concerned people.

Of course, you know we've finally broken the floodgates when you get a similar article on Vic Derbyshire's programme. I look forward to the 'I had no idea' concerned head tilt.

SirVixofVixHall · 14/10/2019 22:52

Phil and Holly....not so long ago a tiny little girl, around five maybe ? Was wheeled out as trans and they were hugely supportive.
