This is excellent - unpaid women volunteers yet again doing the job others get paid to do.

They are good. They have done such a lot of work.

Why the heck is there that dreadful background on the web page? It must make it almost impossible for anyone with not-great eyesight to read :( My instant mental reaction was "EEK, I don't want to look at this page, don't want to read it". The background is a barrier to engaging readers with the information, IMO.

OK, I've had my grumble, so back to reading it.

Apollo440 · 09/10/2019 07:58

It's a good response but it is abundantly clear that EHRC have an agenda and will force through this guidance whilst deliberately misrepresenting the law. We should begin fundraising for a judicial review now.

OldCrone · 09/10/2019 08:32

I agree Juells. The background is distracting and makes it difficult to read.

Sanddancer99 · 09/10/2019 09:49

Women and Girls in Scotland have concluded that “the sex specific needs and rights of girls have to be addressed, as well as safeguarding, because as it stands the guidance would infringe the human rights, equality protection and welfare of girls, and would lead to harm and discrimination...”
Judging by the huge number of overwhelmingly critical comments expressing similar concerns about this guidance, on social media and newspaper websites, it’s clear that the vast majority of the general public agrees with this conclusion.

In fact, the general public can see exactly what is happening here: the EHRC is denying the rights of girls, a protected group whose rights it has statutory duty to uphold. This isn’t regulatory incompetence, it’s far worse than that. This is gross regulatory malpractice and negligence, by a discredited regulator which is not fit for purpose

LangCleg · 09/10/2019 09:52

This is an excellent response, particularly given the EHRC's obduracy in timescale and unwillingness to engage in good faith.

Thank you to everyone who has put in such a lot of hard work in making a genuinely policy-ready response given the hurdles!

We should begin fundraising for a judicial review now.

I concur.

WichBitchHarpyTerfThatsMe · 09/10/2019 11:56

This is excellent and clear. Yup - funding for a Judicial Review.

Is this statistic right?

^women and girls in Scotland accessed these services at almost 14 x the rate of trans people^

It doesn't tie in with:

^“of the 5,072 survivors who accessed support at a centre last year, 212 of these were men or boys and 7 people were trans/non-binary”^

Whatisthisfuckery · 09/10/2019 15:19

It does if you look at on a population level. Transpeople are estimated to make up 1-2% of the population depending on the estimates they used.

Kilbranan · 09/10/2019 16:45

Wow that’s a lot of work, I’m so grateful to the women who have given up their free time to do this. It’s a great response esp considering the ridiculous time constraints!

PotholePalace · 09/10/2019 20:58

Thanks Whatisthisfuckery that makes sense to me now. I guess if I identified as trans/non binary but was then raped by a man and needed support I might reconsider my gender identity.

CharlieParley · 09/10/2019 21:05

The numbers are right but the maths is wrong.

That should read:

Women and Girls accessed the service at 23 times the rate of men and boys and 693 times the rate of trans people.

CharlieParley · 09/10/2019 21:10

But please don't let that or the background distract you from the analysis. Coz that is spot on and very important in pointing out the complete lack of concern for girls and non-compliance of the EHR-fucking-C with either the EqA or the UNCRC.

The bloody EHRC. Recommending to schools that they should negotiate children's rights away. With the children. That has to be one of the most egregious derelictions of duty I've ever seen.
