Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Evidence that women generally prefer single sex lavatories.

Hello
I'm discussing this with someone. I said women generally prefer single sex. They asked me if I'd ever seen any evidence of this.

I had to admit I hadn't, but I thought I could find some. I think a weakness of spending time here is we begin to assume what we read and believe is true without actual evidence.
Anecdotally I know this is true from speaking to many women, but does anyone have a survey or poll that demonstrates it?
Thanks

On the subject of men washing their hands after going to the loo we have one male toilet and one female toilet at all work and we have an equal amount of male and female workers. The woman's hand soap has to be replaced about once a week and the men's hand soap lasts all year....

Looks likely but don't have a password. Perhaps an academic MN could see if this fits the bill? journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1177/0038026119854274?journalCode=sora

There is evidence that female US soldiers died of dehydration in Iraq as they were too frightened to use the toilets after repeated sexual assaults.

@Figureof80 this bothers me as well because it's racism- an assumption that men and boys in developing countries are more of a risk than men here.

Was the person querying this by any chance a man? I'm trying to imagine a post that opened "I'm discussing this with a woman. I said women generally prefer single sex. She asked me if I'd ever seen any evidence of this." Nope. Can't imagine it.

Thanks for all the replies, I feel a bit rude for not replying to them all individually.
Lots of good info from lots of people, but that's the kind I found myself. It was hard to find an actual poll or survey with concrete results, but luckily Lang posted this in another forum twitter.com/talkRADIO/status/1180132186302947329 which has precisely the sort of info I wanted - clear evidence that mixed sex loos are not popular.
Thanks again for all your links

No, it's a woman - of the vagina possessing kind. It's sad to say that there are many people of both sexes who are woked up.

Most of them - like my friend - are good people who instinctively side with the minority. I did myself until I started reading up on this sort of stuff. It was the anarchist book fair incident that alerted me to what was going on - I couldn't believe what I was reading.
I thought her question was fair enough, she wasn't disputing it or trying to score a point. We are in a bit of a bubble here, and it's easy to forget that out in the wider world we need to have proof ready for when we are trying to de-woke people.

Give her the book Invisible Women - I dare anyone to read that and not think that sex segregated toilets are essential, as is the fact that women must be taken into consideration everywhere.

It's all backed up by evidence and actually makes you very angry reading it when you see in black and white how women are ignored - this is very much to our daily peril and our hard fought rights are further constantly under threat.

'What was particularly outrageous about the Old Vic (I’m a Friend and a regular) was they fundraised to increase the wholly inadequate number of ladies’ loos then unveiled something completely different - mixed sex with/without urinal'

Hold on
So they raised money, probably a lot of it from women, to improve the provision of women's facilities

And then used it to REDUCE them by moving to 'cubicles with urinals' (which women won't generally use ' and' cubicles' which both men and women will use.

Thus reducing provision for women and giving men access to all.

Paid for by women, probably, mainly.

What utter utter bastards that's made me really angry. That fucking trolling, piss taking. Shows an utter contempt for women.

StyleItOutAgain · 05/10/2019 18:22

Men don't want mixed sex either, in the whole.

Young men at work don't want to be caught checking their hair, teeth in the mirror when the girl they fancy walks in.

No one wants this.

Just read this on Twitter and think we need single sex facilities even more now Shock

@Zone4flaneur “this bothers me as well because it's racism- an assumption that men and boys in developing countries are more of a risk than men here.”

Absolutely.

How can we lecture the developing world about the need for single sex facilities in schools while dismantling safeguarding in our own?

Does this mean that we think human nature is somehow different in developed countries? That we are somehow better? More civilised?

Yeah right. We are all just one Brexit prepped can of beans away from anarchy.

OrchidInTheSun · 06/10/2019 13:22

Criado-Perez

My autocorrect renamed her Hmm

And yes, I think there is a huge amount of racism in understanding that girls and women need single sex facilities in developing countries but that we have evolved beyond that.

And coupled with the fact that sexual assaults and rapes are on the rise, we also know it's a massive fucking lie.

Deadringer · 06/10/2019 15:57

Sorry not the point of the thread but seeing that picture of the women queueing for the female only toilet really brought it home to me that if they are going to make one bathroom mixed sex toilets it should be the men's. It makes so much more sense, a small number of women will use them, especially if the queue for the ladies is long, so transwomen won't stand out in them, and neither will transmen, whether they pass or not. Seems like the ideal solution.

Lolasaurous · 07/10/2019 07:19

^ deadringer , it's not going to happen because transwomen , regardless of how far they've transitioned or not, want to be in the ladies room, no other option will do really, they want to walk in the room with the ladies sign on the door , it makes them feel "validated" or whatever. but if they can't do that, then women aren't allowed to either, we have to all go in mixed sex... or is that mixed gender...? Women aren't allowed to be alone anywhere now, even when we use the toilet and change our sanitary wear, men have to be there too. Does someone keep statistics of sexual assaults in toilets? because i predict it's going to go up.
