George Galloway thinks sexual harassment allegations are just political point scoring

If we were ever in any doubt that Galloway was still a dick head, I present to you:

twitter.com/georgegalloway/status/1178596337283141633?ref_src=twsrc%5Egoogle%7Ctwcamp%5Eserp%7Ctwgr%5Etweet

Reads: If only #CharlotteEdwardes had told us before now of #BorisJohnson hunnish behaviour towards her 20 years ago when he sexually assaulted her in 1999. It could have saved us all from a lot of trouble. She could have used her columns in the Johnson-fanatic Evening Standard to do so

OP posts:
ScreamingBeans · 01/10/2019 09:56

She was a journalist, for God's sake. She had a platform to make this known. Johnson has been in the public eye for the last 20 years,. And now is the best time to reveal this??

You really think women have a clear platform to make known men's sexual harassment of them without their careers suffering? How do you think a woman's claim that BJ squeezed their thigh would have been received pre #metoo? I think everyone would have told her that it wasn't like a "real" sexual assault, she should just get over it and count herself lucky she wasn't raped and that she was undermining all the "real victims" out there.

That's what normally happens to women who disclose anything about men's bad behaviour that can be minimised and made to seem trivial (because after all, what's a thigh squeeze? Let's not ask ourselves why women aren't going around squeezing men's thighs.).

ratsnest · 01/10/2019 10:01

And yet surely the issue is that Boris, with his singularly focussed intention of becoming PM for many years, might have thought at some point perhaps it would be better not to provide numerous women with ammunition to fire at him at a 'politically expedient time'.

But actually it does seem more likely to to be a politically expedient deflection from more serious money allegation, because as we know, no one really gives a flying flamingo how our PM treats or has treated women which tells you everything you need to know about society in general. Angry

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/10/2019 10:01

This is the grimmest thread I've seen on here in a while.

BeMoreMagdalen · 01/10/2019 10:33

Newsflash: FWR is the feminist section of Mumsnet. The point of feminism is to centre women, and MN used to be quite big on that, especially in relation to women talking about sexual intimidation and assault. Hence the 'We believe you' stuff, and zero tolerance for doubting rape victims here.

If you are so fucking desperate to see Brexit done and dusted, (and tbh, whatever side you're on, sho doesn't) that you are prepared to minimise and scorn a woman's disclosure because it concerns a man you think might be able to achieve that aim, you seriously need to give your fucking head a wobble.

You're not working for women's liberation if you are happy to throw a woman under the bus when she talks about a powerful man using sexual advances on her without her consent. Have a fucking word with yourself.

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 01/10/2019 10:37

What Bernard said.

LordRandallXV · 01/10/2019 10:40

I'm in two minds about it too. It's not acceptable, but I'm certainly not going to try and track down and report the girl who pinched my bum at a bar 20 years ago when I was 18.

RoyalCorgi · 01/10/2019 10:45

I'm certainly not going to try and track down and report the girl who pinched my bum at a bar 20 years ago when I was 18.

Is she now prime minister?

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 01/10/2019 12:05

Fairly positive there was no ‘tracking down’ involved

BeMoreMagdalen · 01/10/2019 12:46

Jesus, I'm appalled at this thread still. Seriously, if you think a woman should shut up about being touched without her permission because it's politically expedient, then what the fuck are you doing on a feminist board? Did the supreme court nominations in the US pass you by, or did you think that Christine Blasey Ford should have kept it to herself and the reason a woman brings up a powerful man's bad behaviour is because she's vindictive?

DtPeabodysLoosePants · 01/10/2019 14:26

Horrible thread.

LordRandallXV · 01/10/2019 17:04

Is she now prime minister?

I doubt that would really affect my judgement. People can change a lot in 20 years and we're not exactly talking rape here.

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 01/10/2019 17:06

randal

In your ‘judgment’ it was ‘unacceptable’

So thats good

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 01/10/2019 19:52

'Only a thigh squeeze'? On FWR? About the Prime Minister of the fucking country?

Seriously?

FFS

ScreamingBeans · 01/10/2019 20:17

Seriously, it's not exactly rape?

So we're making excuses for men if they don't rape women, only sexually harass them?

We have gone backwards, haven't we.

Do we need to send him a box of cookies to congratulate him for not having raped someone, only made her freeze?

Is this FWR?

LordRandallXV · 01/10/2019 20:37

Seriously, it's not exactly rape?

So we're making excuses for men if they don't rape women, only sexually harass them?

I was talking about the woman who pinched my bottom.

It's not rape, although if I wanted to get dramatic about it, it meets the criteria for 'sexual assault'.

LordRandallXV · 01/10/2019 20:38

#MenToo

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 01/10/2019 21:08

Get dramatic?

Oh good lord

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 01/10/2019 21:26

Ah. Look. Women are just as bad and men are just as likely to be the victim except they don't whine about it or play the victim card.

Did I miss anything for the MRA full house?

NAMALthePM?

RufusthebewiIderedreindeer · 01/10/2019 21:28

Er nope...think you covered it shedressed

Yeahnahyeah · 01/10/2019 21:37

How about you give your own head a wobble?

You have inferred any criticism about her claim is due to wanting Brexit over and done with. Lame.

ShesDressedInBlackAgain · 01/10/2019 21:45

This is a feminist board. For feminist chat. And generally people seeking to minimise sexual harassment assault or ascribe bad motives to women disclosing sexual harassment or assault are given short shrift because, y'know, feminism.

Other internet is available though. Nethuns is over -->

BeMoreMagdalen · 01/10/2019 21:52

Yeah, cos I was actually really struggling to think of a decent reason why any feminist would be dismissing a woman talking about a man doing this. But sure, if you want to just go with 'screaming internalized misogyny', that works.

PhilSwagielka · 01/10/2019 22:55

Of course he does, he's a total brocialist. He's a forced-birther as well.

dicknodick · 02/10/2019 07:52

@BeMoreMagdalen

Does everyone have to agree on this board then ? Or are women allowed to have differing views ?

Seems you want to shut down women's differing views.

BeMoreMagdalen · 02/10/2019 08:27

dicknodick, you can differ as you please, as everyone always has on this message board. But you can also expect a feminist response of 'WTF?' if you say "Yeah, she got groped, but why is she talking about it?"

I'm astonished that viewpoint is being so eagerly pushed on a FWR. So far I've seen that first response, a few "I don't care", a "It happens to men too" and some choice "#MeToo has gone too far".

Those statements that acknowledge a woman was groped, but dismiss it entirely, is exactly why #MeToo happened, and it doesn't matter whether a woman said them or not - do you seriously think the patriarchy remains because only men support it in words and actions? There have always been women who do the work of the patriarchy, whether through unconscious self preservation or other reasons. So I'm sure it's unpleasant when you are confronted with the fact that you are basically being an enforcer for the system. But if you can't see it, it has to be pointed out.
