Good Housekeeping / Hearst endorsing Mermaids....

Just read the November issue of Good Housekeeping and there is a trans boy in there, age 12. Mermaids are or course mentioned as good support, both in the article and at the end in a box for people seeking help and support.

Article states that Mermaids has "helped thousands of people since it was set up in 1995"

I'll be avoiding GH from now on as the article has no critical thinking at all in it. Do I avoid all of Hearst?

Has anyone else seen this one?

Haven't seen it, but it is worth writing to Good Housekeeping. Be dispassionate and factual.

Hearst publishes Cosmo that had an awful article recently. I would have thought GH would have been ok but I'll also avoid from now on.

I still have to write to Cosmo to complain. I always think it's worth complaining as if nothing else they have had reader feedback.

I have just cancelled both subscriptions I had with Hearst citing the article endorsing Mermaids.
I cannot subscribe to the lack of critical thinking and I certainly won't be parting with a single penny of my money to support the bollocks spouted by Mermaids et al.

Tbh expecting any kind of critical thinking in a women's magazine article is asking a lot. They seem to assume that women don't have brains. I worked in the industry for about 10 months and basically never bought a consumer magazine again. They are advertising pamphlets.

I get GH for free with my bank account. Since seeing the article, I haven't been able to look at the rest of the magazine. I want to complain but I don't feel I'm articulate enough to get the message across.

Are there any good women's magazines? I haven't read any for ages. Everything (mainstream) seems to be expecting readers to have no interest in stretching their brains and making women feel guilty. But maybe I'm just naive.

I read the Lady.
Started after the TV show about Rachel Johnston taking over as editor.

Having not read a woman's mag since I was in my thirties as they were all rubbish .

I don't live in London, have a title , need or want to be a nanny but it's better than the rest IMO.

NOOOO

not before the Mighty Christmas Issue

Hearst, why are you doing this to me?

NoNoOk · 29/09/2019 22:17

@BernardBlacksWineIceLolly

I know! That's why I was looking through November, to build anticipation for the December issue! Now I just can't.

After avoiding palm oil and Mermaids, there won't be anything left for me to buy!

I have cancelled my subscription and told them why.

I opened mine and started reading this last night and felt the same. I am also planning to write to them about it. Perhaps if enough of their subscribers contact them it will make them think.
