Probably been done before, but it's interesting that 55% of men voted to leave against 49% of women.

And none of them can explain why they think it will be a good thing....

andyoldlabour · 27/09/2019 12:17

I am wondering why the total is 104% Confused

TheAlternativeTentacle · 27/09/2019 12:19

55% of men voted to leave against 49% of women.

Are you sure that is what you mean?

55% of all men and 49% of all women?

Can you share your research please, I am not sure you are calculating things properly.

FilthyBiscuit · 27/09/2019 12:21

Hardly dragged out when the stats are so close. Even if they don't add up Confused

ErrolTheDragon · 27/09/2019 12:24

This clarifies.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 27/09/2019 12:28

You would have to clarify what the statistics actually are but I'm assuming they reflect % of those who actually voted because of course the majority of both the electorate as a whole and the population did not vote for brexit.

On that basis given the demographic differences between men and women I can see how 55% of men (slightly smaller demographic) plus 49% of women (slightly larger demographic) adds up to 52% overall.

Inebriati · 27/09/2019 12:29

55% of men voted leave and 45% voted remain.

51% of women voted leave and 49% voted remain.

TheAlternativeTentacle · 27/09/2019 12:31

Of the people that voted...

When you split the votes by 'gender' into remain versus leave...

55% of the males that voted, voted to leave against 49% of the females that voted, that voted to leave.

Bearing in mind of course, some of those females might well have been males, as they split by gender not sex...

I’m not sure what point your making apart from making a statement of fact. I’m assuming you don’t want to leave the EU though given your wording. What do you suggest? Women’s votes to count double or something? Do you not think every vote should be treated equally?

andyoldlabour · 27/09/2019 16:09

I am a bit OCD when it comes to statistics and reports, so I found the wording alongside that report to be very misleading. We know that Scotalnd voted to remain, but Statista are claiming that 62% of the Scottish population voted to remain in the EU, which is totally untrue. It should have said 62% of the valid votes cast. Scotland had a low turnout at 67.2%, so the percentage of the electorate who voted to remain was 41.6%.
