Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Is there any point to the Twitter nonsense?

I joined Twitter a couple of weeks ago, followed a few GC accounts, posted a few GC comments, RTd a few, then added my contributions to the TheyCallMeAT*rf posts.
So far I've been called a t%rf, a bigot, a Nazi, a holocaust denier (Confused), intolerant, sexist, etc etc....
Literally nothing I've posted justifies any of those accusations.
Is it worth staying on there to support others, is it worth engaging with these people or do people just ignore them? They seem to have zero interest in debate and just want to throw insults around, and I don't have the time for this shit.
Aaargh.

I was barred, but wish I was on there to support others, such as Joanna Cherry, Julie Burchill, Michael Conroy etc. To respond to the politicians, pressure groups, misguided celebrities and influencers.

As for the blue haired, bearded Anime cult, do not engage.
Mad as a box of frogs.

So far the most vitriolic have been middle aged straight men. This isn't even their fight, why are they so invested?

It gives them a free pass to hate on women.

I would probably pick some other interests to RT/comment on nature/sport/weather/ science to pad it out a bit though

If you just concentrate on GC issues you'll probably get banned or shadow banned pretty quickly

Fortunately the most narky one has blocked me now, after seeking me out to argue with. Pathetic.

Yep.

Oh, the beards love getting the last word in too.

You got called all that in the first few weeks?

You much be doing something right!

I am not sure why anyone thinks being on twitter is a good use of time.

Twitter is one of the least used social media platforms. It is only because the main stream media uses it to create click bait stories for their own papers that it has any influence. And the mainstream media never pick up comments from GC women.

If you were going to campaign in your local community to reach out to other women would you go to the dingiest bar in town where all the drunk males hang out or would you go to somewhere that you knew you would make more contact with other women eg facebook or instagram.

I dont think we should fall for the male myth that twitter is important. They are just misdirecting women into a pointless cul de sac so that they can trap us into pointless activity and use us as target practice for anti woman invective!

Smile

If you have time and energy I would look around for somewhere more positive to put your energy.

eg supporting your local women's refuge or rape crisis centre.

If someone sends you a particularly vile message, retweet it with a particularly apt comment, is "Here's the voice of feminism". Depends what abuse you get

Gingerkittykat · 24/09/2019 22:46

I joined up fairly recently to tweet a competition entry and have stuck around and followed some accounts.

I think it's pretty rubbish, people I would be interested in following tweeting several times a day just annoyed me. People retweeting stuff annoys me. I've occasionally commented on things but don't find it engaging enough to want to use it much.

Lisa Muggeridge used to call Twitter "the chat room where the mediating class went to die". Glad I'm not on the hellsite.
