Rise above Gender - Socialist Action Against Gender Stereotyping

Posting as a point of information as I hadn't heard of this group. They sat:

"Gender Identity” and transgender ideologies are based in the denial of biological reality. They claim the falsehood that male and female are identities rather than biological fact. This is the lie at the root of the transgender agenda. Many are unaware of this lie and many others refuse to even see it."

The statements about who they are and what they think are:

I wonder how realistic it is, to support both women’s rights and the current leadership of the Labour Party?

youkiddingme · 20/09/2019 23:25

"So our objectives are two-fold a) to work towards a democratic socialist Labour Government at the earliest opportunity (which means supporting our current shadow cabinet and leadership in winning the up-coming general election) and b) working towards the Labour party and Trade Unions adopting a gender-critical position in order to be able to counter sex-based oppression."
I think they realise there's work to be done.

Gingerkittykat · 21/09/2019 04:42

Loving it, I'm a true leftie and gender critical folk are normally seen as right wing.

Is anyone else reading this yet another case of "women pipe down and work for the greater good and then if we're not too busy we might listen to you briefly"?

I'd love there to be a left wing move towards promoting scientific reality and women's rights but this stinks of a desperate attempt to lure women back. Do you think they have begun to notice the withdrawal of women labour members that they had previously relied on to do a lot of the campaign work? This type of delayed promise to women has been used in the past to hoodwink women into doing the work of left wing groups without ever delivering the on the promises so I'd need a lot more concrete progress before I even think about engaging.

youkiddingme · 21/09/2019 09:47

I had to read that twice before I saw what you saw NotAnotherFeckingMuftiDay - then I couldn't unsee the fact that b) came very much after a) - they didn't manage to squeeze a 'whilst simultaneously' in there.
Nevertheless I'm pleased that they have highlighted the issue.

NotAnotherFeckingMuftiDay · 21/09/2019 09:51

I'm feeling very grumpy and just feel insulted that they thought we might fall for it yet again.

Perhaps I'm too cynical though, and as you say any talking about this openly should be welcomed.

PhonicTheHedgehog · 21/09/2019 09:59

I can’t deliver the Labour leaflets because they don’t fit into my sparkly handbag and I can’t possibly walk that far in these heels.

stillathing · 21/09/2019 10:03

Torn. In some ways this looks hopeful. But I can't unsee what I've now seen in the Labour Party. And I'm still very hurt by it.

Almost all the GC people I know and follow are Left wing. On some level I think gender idealogues know this, otherwise "right wing" would not be such a frequent insult.

Gender ideology is super individualistic and capitalist. It is not a logical fit for Labour. But can I be arsed arguing that with the seemingly huge numbers of privileged, entitled people who can't follow their own thought processes to the logical conclusion? I have kids, a job, PTSD. I'm over 30 and female and a gender heretic so I doubt they'd listen to me.

TinselAngel · 21/09/2019 13:37

I've been right on the verge of giving Labour up as a totally lost cause but I will watch this with interest.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 21/09/2019 13:40

I hope it works. Left wing organisations & media come across as increasingly homophobic & misogynist with their pro-trans attitude. I should be voting Labour on Greens but I can’t trust either.

youkiddingme · 21/09/2019 18:04

If anyone is interested in trying to find out what they are actually about and is near Brighton, An informal gathering is being arranged 7.30 - 9pm on the evening of Tuesday 24th September

See their latest post and message the page.

NonnyMouse1337 · 21/09/2019 18:27

I'd be more hopeful if they attempted to push for B first as a condition upon which support for A would be generated i.e. no support for a democratic socialist party without unequivocal support for GC stance.

If we got A first, every shitty self-id and gender ideology would be pushed through. B would never happen.

stumbledin · 22/09/2019 00:58

Dawn Butler has confirmed Labour Party committment to reform of the GRA so it would be good to know that there is some organised opposition to self identity within the Labour Party. Hmm

re. their meeting on 24th. Are they aware there is a WPUK fringe meeting the day before? www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3687968-A-Womans-Place-is-at-Conference-23-September-2019-Brighton

Yes they definitely know about it because they put it on their Facebook page.

stumbledin · 23/09/2019 00:30

That's good!

I suddenly had visions of more Labour Party factionalism and that the whole trans issue would get lost in some hair splitting interparty arguing.

Good to have 2 groups campaigning for women's rights as the Labour Party conference.

NeurotrashWarrior · 23/09/2019 09:24

I know one of the women running this; she's definitely very GC and a feminist and is desperate to get the Labour Party back on track with this.

stillathing · 23/09/2019 12:22

I've been right on the verge of giving Labour up as a totally lost cause but I will watch this with interest.

Me too. I very much support this even if I'm not sure I'm ready to be involved. I have to grudgingly admit that I'm quite interested in a couple of the policies Labour have been talking about recently too.

LangCleg · 23/09/2019 12:31

This Labour resignee is happy to see those still sticking it out and fighting for internal change. I hope they succeed.

Insofar as voting for Labour goes? The manifesto is only thing that matters. Until self-ID and other anti-woman, anti-safeguarding policies are removed from it, I won't be voting for the party.

End of.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 23/09/2019 12:33

I'm sure there are lots of decent women, and men for that matter, within the Labour Party but until I hear a clear statement from the leadership to the effect of 'transwomen are men and women are entitled to spaces free of all men, and we will end the transing of children for the (word I'm not allowed to use as my posts are removed) it is' I'm not interested.

Maybe there could have been a compromise but unfortunately I took trans privilege activists' advice and educated myself so now I am unwilling to play pretend at all. Trans ideology is too dangerous.
