No posting this out of support for the Green Party but to show that it seems some party members are prepared to discuss gender critical views.

Speakers:

  • Linda Bellos (Lesbian BAME history& rights/ author)
  • Heather Brunskell-Evans (Social theorist & philosopher)
  • Stephanie Davies- Arai (Transgender Trend - a parents & carers organisation)
  • Miranda Yardley (Trans commentator/ blogger/campaigner )

Wow, just found this and I'm surprised that there were no comments. I was doing a search to find out who were the speakers at this meeting that was threatened by a number of activists although as far as I know, there were no actual incidents.
Thanks for being one of the top results in my Google search though!

Well been all over the place trying to find out anything about this meeting. Would be good if anyone who attended could feed back.

I did however find an online media source called Bright Green that had a recap of the conference with a small write up about preventing a discussion on 'transphobic motions', posted here;

"Among the motions proposed to this year’s conference were some regarded by many members as transphobic. These motions were eventually not heard on conference floor as time ran out before they were debated.

One of the motions sought to delete a line of existing policy which states:

The Green Party recognises that trans men are men, trans women are women and non-binary identities exist and are valid.

Although the motion was not heard on conference floor, at its workshop stage – where policies are discussed in a smaller group and a summary of the discussion is presented to conference – a straw poll saw a majority of members vote against it. The workshop debate was heated, with nearly 100 people attending, and the room filling up to the point that there was standing room only."

There was also a hatchet job by the same author about Suzanne Moore's article here. No information about the actual article just the usual slurs.

RIP Green Party, women are allowed to stand up for their rights even if you don't agree.

OhHolyJesus · 06/04/2020 21:49

I've been side eyeing the Greens to see what would happen post #ExpelMe. Personally I don't think they can afford to lose a single member over GC/trans stuff because they are essentially grass roots, have no big backers like the Tories and are not strong to sustain any more scandals after the Challenors. Even Lucas charging for HoP tours is damaging (would be water off a ducks back for Teflon Tories).

I can't seem to find anything on their Facebook page that was post event but this was the day before:

www.facebook.com/647628982020559/posts/2481496105300495/?d=n

Scrolling back they had loads of fab posts on everything from critiquing diagrams of vaginas and on the rough sex defence.

I think I might join them!

Current thread re Green Party suspensions of Richard Firth & Owain Sutton:

@Socrates11
I can confirm that the fringe in Newport did happen and I was there. We managed to keep the venue secret, so there was no trouble from trans activists. There are plenty of GC members of the Green Party, but it's not easy. At least Owain Sutton and Richard Firth are out of the way for a while, so perhaps we are gaining some ground.

Socrates11 · 07/04/2020 21:42

Thanks, LoveMyBusPass. Good to hear, & that there are rational Greens who haven't been expelled yet for preferring biology to fiction. What did you think about what was said at the meeting, any standout bits?

I know Rupert Read & Jenny Jones were not totally convinced, and there's the marvellous Bea Campbell in the wings. Just disgusted about the way Andy Healy & Olivia Palmer were treated over raising safeguarding issues & the total non-response to the Veritas report. But the new crop of 'want to be leaders' keep doubling down (as shown by the vacuous letter to the Guardian)

Politically (for me) Green is the way forward but you can't stand for science & reason whilst simultaneously promoting unscientific, harmful bollocks. Not good enough.

LoveMyBusPass · 08/04/2020 11:13

@socrates11
Very lively, positive meeting. No stand out points but a terrific feeling of support.
Jenny Jones is sound. Rupert, too, I think. But they keep quiet because of the trolling they have received in the past. Our current leadership is hopeless. Elections for Leader(s) and deputy will take place later in the year and there will, of course, be factions. Watch this space.

Freespeecher · 08/04/2020 13:12

Can see a Green bounce on the way as disaffected Labour members look to join following Starmer being elected leader.

Remains to be seen how this affects policy - on the one hand some will be woker than woke, on the other some will be more interested in the class struggle and will see the whole identity politics thing as an unwanted distraction.

LoveMyBusPass · 08/04/2020 18:06

Personally, I am fed up with people flitting between Green Party and Labour, depending on what is going on in the Labour Party. They are not Greens and their presence skews how we operate because they get themselves into positions of power and change policies. And then they leave and round we go.

GreenieFingers · 08/04/2020 22:10

I was at that fringe and it was fantastic! Thankfully there were no protesters (or at least none by the time I arrived as there were major traffic problems) but I think that Amelia Womack had requested no trouble from the trans rights aggressors as it was her home ground and the publicity would not have gone down well.
The atmosphere in the room was electric and really harmonious.

I did see one GPEW woman filming but I don't know what happened with that.

EVE346 · 10/04/2020 14:16

Inspirational - a shame Green Party leaders Berry and Womak didn't attend and engaged with some of the women they attack from afar
