(And vaginas.) Apparently it doesn't use the words 'female', feminine' or 'girl'. Despite females being the ones who have periods. Someone shared this in a Facebook group I'm in and I had to restrain myself from pointing some things out (like FGM only happens to girls, for instance.)

Please tell me I'm not the only one think 'WTF?'

My thoughts were along the lines of 'stop erasing women and girls. This stuff happens to us, not men.' I wasn't very coherent when I was ranting to my mum last night (who agreed with me.)

Also I think the pop-up aspect is a bit much, but that's my personal gripe.

'Plus, we know not only girls/women menstruate so we've been very intentional to not use pronouns in the book and to include non-binary characters.'

Eejits. Only females menstruate. Girls and women. By all means show 'gender neutral' girls and women, or even ones who are complete gender nonconformists but ffs don't perpetuate the pretence that they're not girls and women.

Smellbow Grin Now that's a book that needs to exist! But yeah, I can imagine myself being presented with this book aged 10 (when I had my first lesson about periods) and being horrendously embarrassed. (The lesson itself didn't phase me, it was so matter of fact.) Now I want to find all the copies of said book and throw them into the fiery pit.

Errol Agreed. When is this nonsense going to stop?

From the blurb The two of us met at Girls Inc. of Omaha in 2013 where we counsel girls ages 5-18 and teach sex education.

So they certainly know who they are talking about. Even if they are unwilling to say so.

A little digging about Girls.Inc (where the authors met).

Over the years, we have adapted our programs to meet the ever changing needs of our members, but it was and always will be all about the girls.

It looks like they are self publishing too. So perhaps not everyone agrees with writing exclusively about girls without doing them the courtesy of giving them a name.

I can just about see the point of a “pop up” book about penises.

But I’m not sure this one will be a bestseller
