South Park episode - Mr. Garrison's Fancy New Vagina

I guess it's not directly related to feminism, but I came across an old South Park episode called "Mr. Garrison's Fancy New Vagina" and it's a hilarious (but insightful) pisstake on the whole trans issue. Has anyone else watched it?

What I found quite impressive is that the episode was released in 2005 yet it accurately covered numerous angles of trans ideology - with trans racial and trans species absurdities thrown in to prove a point.

Just a warning if you are thinking of watching it - there are some scenes of real life surgery briefly shown at the start of the episode so you might want to bear that in mind if you're squeamish like me. You can cover your eyes and listen to the dialogue for that bit if it helps. :)

There is also a stoning scene in Life of Brian where all the participants are actually women dressed up as men with beards because women aren't allowed to attend stonings.

I used to work with a gal called Loretta who was always called Stan in tribute to that. She didn’t mind. Grin

I've seen that episode of South Park. Nails the insanity before it happened.

Coyoacan · 09/09/2019 16:42

The barbaric torture of any human is not suitable grounds for comedy, in my opinion

I haven't seen that scene but I agree. I also cannot cope with the worship of the cross for the same reason.

The bits I've scene of the Life of Brian are extremely pertinent to a lot of situations that have nothing to do with religion. I was actually in a political organisation that subdivided and changed initials so many times that I laughed myself sick at the Life of Brian's version of that.

As for the Loretta scene, that is so ridiculously prescient.

NonnyMouse1337 · 09/09/2019 19:07

Gosh, I totally missed the Loretta scene. We've fallen into a comedy sketch that's no longer funny. Shock

I've always loved the stoning scene. Grin

See also their most recent game (South Park: The Fractured But Whole) where Mr Mackey asks you to confirm your gender and sexuality choices.

I can't find anywhere I can watch the full episode but the clips I've found are priceless. Any suggestions on where to find full episodes? I might be about to become a South Park fan late in life.

NonnyMouse1337 · 10/09/2019 11:16

3timeslucky it was indeed incredibly difficult to find the full episode on any of the usual media like YouTube or Netflix.
My partner found a cough slightly questionable site that had all the episodes you could watch for free.
I can find out what it was and PM you if you'd like.

Very much appreciating this thread

on a bit of a tangent I watched the wonderful film Being John Malcovich recently and was struck by the issues re transgender, multiple selves and repressed trauma that it raises. Highly recommended

Also, following it I watched the also wonderful Get Out, highly recommended for tangential reasons

OldCrone you're a star!

^ Exactly this thank you!

Ihatefootball86 · 10/09/2019 14:18

Yes omg the episode where Cartman decides to identify as a girl so he can use the nicer women's bathrooms!
Also the whole political season where the voters were voting for either the giant turd or the shit sandwich. More clever and satirical than some people realise.

Ihatefootball86 · 10/09/2019 14:22

Think it may be on sky box sets..because it's usually on comedy central.

'Hail! Hail! Robonia, a land I didn't make uuuup'.

zanahoria · 11/09/2019 13:14

you may want to watch the season 12 episode "Eek, a Penis!", he undergoes another sex change operation, returning to being a man.

nevermorelenore · 11/09/2019 16:51

I liked the PC Principal episode with his woke frat bro friends, especially when Randy is trying to impress them. ‘Hey, Caitlin Jenner is a stunning and beautiful woman!’

Family Guy’s episode where Peter becomes a trans woman and gets lots of special treatment is pretty funny. I did feel sorry for the way they treated Ida as a character in the other episodes, so I found her speech an interesting character turn.

zanahoria · 11/09/2019 17:43

The creators of South Park never get bullied as there are just two of them Trey Parker and Matt Stone, they are a couple of decent guys who genuinely love what they do have made enough money and don't bend to it. They even had a cartoon Mohammed in one episode.

HandsOffMyRights · 11/09/2019 17:55

South Park has never shyed away from topical or controversial issues.
The Michael Jackson and Cartman clip, for example.

I was looking through some old copies of Viz and the writers also nail it. Satire.

hoodathunkit · 16/10/2019 09:05

I thought that readers might enjoy this video which, in my mind, depicts one character who encapsulates the spirit of Stonewall

BeyondAvoidant · 16/10/2019 09:10

For black humour, see SP's Caitlin Jenner - really not a good driver.

BeyondAvoidant · 16/10/2019 09:11

I'm sure I saw SP is on Netflix now btw?

hoodathunkit · 16/10/2019 09:14

Did you mean this BeyondAvoidant?

:)

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 16/10/2019 09:53

I love South Park. There has actually been blowback from the woke yoof about the last few seasons, seems like they loved the show when it was poking fun at religious people etc but hey, they weren't supposed to skewer the tropes that we believe in, that's not fair!

TheProdigalKittensReturn · 16/10/2019 09:54

Meanwhile I'm over here going, look, they mock anyone and everyone who's doing dumb things. Why are you special?
