The first Labour MP to be deselected is Diana Johnson.

She's just won back bencher of the year, and from what can gather is strong campaigner for women's issue's aswell as campaigning for for her constituents. Constituents who voted her back in.

So momentum want her out, but why her? why right now?

In the Hull daily mail link, they hint at that she may now be allowed to put herself forward for reseletion. Yet other new links say it's automatic that she would be put forward.

Also, Hull is safe Labour. Maomentum aim to oust a sitting MP over internal politics & wrongthink, they get a safe seat forever.

Tyrotoxicity · 08/09/2019 14:03

Apparently it's an all woman shortlist, I read.

Which, as we all know, in no way guarantees I'm going to have a female candidate available to vote for.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/09/2019 14:09

Worrying. I live in a constituency with a huge Labour majority. My MP is not a Corbynite nor a member of Momentum, but has managed to keep in with all sides, as far as I'm aware. However, Momentum is pretty strong in our area, so she must be walking on eggshells in the hope of not triggering the reselection process. I bet there are lots of ambitious Labour party members eyeing up this seat not least a well-known local politics student.

Ah yes. Suddenly, the light dawns.

@MoobaaMoobaa what has this got to do with feminism?

what has this got to do with feminism?

Welcome to Mumsnet, MoobaaMoobaa.

OP expressed right there in her OP that she was concerned about the deselection of a pro-woman female MP. Instigators appear to be the Momentum faction, which has a clear anti-woman and genderist perspective.

HTH.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/09/2019 14:31

All women shortlists are a feminist issue. Diana Johnson's constituency will have one. Could be useful for the country at large to see what an AWS can mean nowadays.

LangCleg · 08/09/2019 14:39

Apologies. Did not spot.

MoobaaMoobaa · 08/09/2019 14:44

LangCleg has explained perfectly.

I'm sure mooshbook is capable of reading and understanding the threads they are posting on, but maybe just don't want to.

I dont think being a blairite or a friend of israel in itself will ailinate the left of the party.
I believe its only if she is either; undermining Labours election chances... because Corbin (it never cesees to amaze me how many 'socialists' are activly doing everything they can to make sure a socialist does not get in to number 10) or trying to perpetuate the antisemitic smere that memebers will have an issue with her representing them in parliment.
I hope its not Labour silencing a woman who is sticking up for women.
